finnished 5 gallon bucket diy canister filter

Geeze people, why all the bashing? If this thing works and the guy is happy with it the thats great.

the first protytype of anything is always the most expensive, and his price list inclued media, and he probably has some spare parts laying around afterwards.

As far as the, mine is better than yours crap, a true DIYer builds exactly what they need to fill a purpose, not to be a generic fits all application that suits everyone.

I have been toying with a few ideas and I really do have a great canister filter planned out in my head, but right now I dont need it, and dont have the money to put into the design. But if I did, and it was done, I wouldn't be out here bashing everyone else that has attempted the same project, and I wouldnt be saying mine is the greatest either.

Congrats on finishing your project man, I am glad it worked out, and you are happy with it. Hopefully it continues to work for a while to come.

o im not bashing i just love giving every one hell. i am sure some one else has made a 5 gallon bucket canister filter out there that is way better than mine is its just not listed in a thread. i think its funny to get people roweled up about stupid comments they make that either dont apply or are utterly wrong its nothing personal to any one just fun for me and i get to put my view on the subject out there. and thanks.

for real you have it at tank level lol try putting that thing under your tank and see what happens. you will have a 110 gallon tank on your floor. and i have yet to see a 5 gallon working canister filter besides mine. yours can even compete. so sad.

I'm merely sharing another method. A "true DIYer", as you apparently see yourself, should be viewing other ideas with an open mind and providing constructive criticisms - not dismissing anything everyone else says with "well mine's better so you obviously don't know what you're talking about." The whole principle of DIY projects is to learn new things and share them with others, not come up with some rediculously complex idea then bash everyone because they don't immediately agree with you, or treat it like some sort of design competition. If you want to share ideas and ask for comments thats fine, but the arrogant attitude isn't going to get you far.

I completely agree.

Having a bucket like that at the same level as the turtle tanks was a wise and prudent decision. Have you been tempted to use the PVC pipe as an arm support LOL :joke:. Actually I like it and the bracing for the two tanks.

Doesn't it take like forever to clean it ? Just to open it ?

it does take a little bit. it takes about 3 min to open and 6 min to close. if you look at my other thread the 5 gallon bucket lid mod it will tell you how i am going to fix that. but the reason it is the way that it is is because all the pieces are for local hardware stores and lfs.
