SUNSUN HW-302 Outside Filter setup & test

My Sunsun 302 instantly cycled my new 100 acrylic tank along with help from my modified Fluval404 (Super-cart). Together they instantly cycled the tank which contained new sand. I say this becasue my large 4" feeder Goldie didn't bat an eye and the ammonia (0) and nitrate (10) levers never got above safe readings. The best thing is the Sunsun has a large format but still fits inside the older aquarium cabinet 9.5" small doors.

For $58 shipped how can you possibly go wrong.
I forgot to mention that the reason the canisters instantly cycled my new tank was becasue they were pre-cycled 4 weeks piggybacked on other tanks, so that part is no real mystery other then the fact that I was impressed how much better it worked compared to using cycled sponges to seed a filter. In the future I will use this piggyback method.

My tank is two years old, so it is fully cycled and established. When I get my new Sunsun cannister, I was planning on taking the media out of my old Marineland Penguin 200 filter and putting it in the Sunsun for a couple weeks to make sure the bacteria gets established in the new media. I currently have two Rite Size filters in the Penguin and a biowheel. Is it going to be OK to put the two Rite Size filters in the Sunsun along with the filter media that is included with the Sunsun? I was going to add bioballs like you suggested earlier in this thread along with the biowheel in order to establish my bacteria on the bioballs. Does this sound OK or would you recommend going about it in a different way?

Has anyone ordered from this seller before? Seems like a better deal(same price as koolgoods) since it comes with the pads, bio balls, bio rings and carbon(which is useless to me).

The filter is identical along with the price of $58 shipped. The only difference is the blue bio pad and some bio-balls. Considering the difference amounts to a few pennies Id go with the seller recomended in this thread becasue of the excellent customer service he has shown with any minor issues.

The one which includes media is 99.8% positive feedback

I don't see why you would worry about it. I bought mine from sun sun and wish it had included some more media.

Would the Sunsun 302 be overkill on my 29g tank? I know you can't have too much filtration, but what about too much flow?

The flow is only about 140 GPH (I tested mine) so it would work great for a 29 gallon.

I'm just saying that 3 times people have asked the vendor featured on this thread to replace a part and he did free of charge including shipping, and he carries parts as well, to me that is a bird in the hand where this new vendor is a bird in the bush. The customer service I'm referring to has been measured in actions not on paper. But hay by all means go for it and test this new vendor out, if there is a minor issue that needs resolving it will test the CS out so there is an alternative source.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the new vendor. I will update everyone with my experience. Hopefully they are as good as the other and we end up with two reputable sources.

I've been thinking about getting an eheim classic 2215 for a new planted tank, but now this thread has me leaning towards the Sunsun HW-302. Either one of these would be my first canister filter. How would you say the 302 compares with the 2215, considering the 2215 is twice the price?

That would be fine.
