Craigslist 40 Gallon Journal

looks like a pretty deep tank,, that bulb wont grow much at all prob... go with apistogramma.. they are really neat... plenty of room for come cories and the prob nice school of cardinal tetras..

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm glad my stocking sounds good! I may have to upgrade the light though

So yesterday I filled up the tank halfway and so far no leaks!

Today I went out and bought a heater, filter, and play sand, and a few other miscellaneous items. So, I've spent about $150 dollars on the tank, stand, and equipment. Despite AC members recommendations, I got an aquaclear 70. Other members recommended the 110 but that was almost $40 more than the 70. If I find that the 70 isn't enough, I will just add another filter.

While I was at petsmart I found out that the tetra dollar sale is done! I thought it was supposed to continue until the end of the month. :( But, I did see an awesome an somewhat rare (I believe) tetra. Hyphessobrycon flammeus It was labeled as Orange Von Rio Flame Tetra. It is was $2.49 which is about a buck cheaper than bleeding hearts. Do you think angelfish would eat these? They grow to a maximum size of 2 inches (5 cm) and are not as slim as neons or cardinals.

Here's a couple links about them.

I thought that they were really pretty too! I also asked on the angelfish and discus forum and it sounds like they would be fine with an angel! :)

So stocking should hopefully be:
1 Angel (Whatever the LFS has in stock thats a pure angel not some cross)
10-12 Von Rio Tetras (Since they are smaller tetras than bleeding hearts)
3-4 Platies (I'm hoping to find some with blue on them, but who knows if I can.)
1-2 Dwarf Cichlids (undecided)

Anybody have any input on using 3 of these and using cfl bulbs instead?

As I'm looking over my stocking list, I'm starting to realize that I might want to research other options. The fish I was thinking of stocking seem to all be red or silver. Is there any fish that I could substitute that are readily available and that are blue? Would a blue dwarf gourami be incompatible with angelfish?

From what I've heard, the Gourami + Angelfish combo can be really hit or miss. Sometimes they just ignore each other, sometimes they'll fight and need to be re-homed. It really depends on the individual fish.

If you do go that route, I'd suggest getting some floating plants. It mellowed out my dwarf gourami a lot - it's natural for them and in my case definitely made the male a lot less stressed.

I dont see why Using those hoods would be a problem. theyre pretty cheap too.
Thanks, I will probably get them in the future then

Hmmmmmm...maybe I will try it and hope for the best. Do you know who tends to be more aggressive in most cases? The angel or the gourami? Or, are they about equal?
