10G Vampire Crab Paludarium

Hey Chris, I was sort of juggling an idea around in my head that you may be interested in trying if you're going to retry the CPs.

What if you did the CP's sort of like in a riparium style container? I figure that would give you more livable room for the crabs and it would make sure something like this didn't happen since the soil would be further removed from the hard water. Also would be easier to remove the VFTs for their dormancy and get them closer to the light, which most of the time is a good thing.

The only issue would be making sure the pots you used could be drained and that there is still enough room for them to spread. I'm sure you could figure something out and since you're already working on a riparium project I though I would throw this out there.

Thanks for the great idea!

I'm not really sure I'd want to do that since it would involve having to rip out everything, including the glass dividers and all.. It would take a lot of work. I fixed the problem with having a sponge filter, that way it only splashes to the furtherside away from the CPss, if any splashes at all.

What I could end up doing is a floating CP pot or something like that. Maybe have a pot in the middle of the creeping fig that way the pot is hidden. I got the rest of the summer to fix things up. :)

Or did you just mean having a riparium containers out of the tank on top of the soil?

Yeah I meant having the pots hang above where the soil is now so they are further away from the water. You could then leave the remaining soil for other plants and the crabs would get more room. If you decide to put them in pots I would make sure to find some small trays as well and sit them in some RO water. Easiest way to grow CPs in a terrarium.

I think that is going to be awesome. I'll create some sort of terrace or something. That would be pretty fun to do.
