Weird phobias?

LMAO @ zombies.

I have severe Emetophobia - fear of vomiting. Not just hate the the idea of it or find it disgusting (as most human beings do), but have a total abject terror of being around anyone who has been/could be sick, or of feeling/being sick myself. Obviously this leads to a fear of germs (specifically gastric viruses) and therefore I do a lot of handwashing.....won't touch "dangerous" foods (like seafood or sushi).....am a bit obsessive about hygiene......fuss about use by dates.....incinerate most meats when I cook them.....etc. I take medication for it, otherwise I woud never leave the house for fear of being in contact with someone who is or has been ill (because I might catch it).

Needless to say, I don't have children - pregnancy, childbirth and children are pretty much vomit guarantees. :)

Funnily enough, I don't freak out much if I flick any tank water in my mouth (it happens, right?), and I can cheerfully clear up dog vomit without turning a hair. Gross huh? :)

Oh, and I hate really big, HUGE bodies of water. Remember that film The Storm? I always dream that I'm fighting to stay afloat in miles and miles of black, heaving water, and there is 5 miles of water underneath me.....terrifying. :(

I don't know if you saw my post or not, but I am also severely emetophobic with all the weirdness that goes with it. Hand washing, avoiding sick people, avoiding pregnancy, freaking out when I think I might feel nausea etc.. It's not cool that you have it, but cool to meet another emet on a fish forum lol.

Whales,:uhoh:
Dry skin....I go through bottles of lotion like nobodys business,
Touching cardboard barehanded or without lotion on..I can almost feel it sucking the moisture from my skin!
Can't have a blanket over my feet if I'm wearing shoes, feels like I'm being suffocated,
Large bodies of water where you cannot see the bottom,

and of course some of the more common phobias: heights, tight spaces, elevators aaaaand FEET!!!!!!!!!!!:yuck:

Sorry no I didn't see your earlier post - lol, there's always another emetophobic lurking somewhere!! It's really quite a common phobia, but people find it a dificult one to understand. Sometimes its easier to explain away weird behaviour with the truth, rather than making up excuses and looking even more demented.....

I have been known to vault any number of large obstacles to escape a vomiter. :)

strange lines of different flags that appear unexpectedly at the top of forum pages... :D

I know a teacher who's scared crapless of vomit. She can't be in the same room at it. She makes fun of herself about it all the time.

I am the same way w/ blankets on my feet w/ shoes on. Can't breathe. Sometimes I'm that way w/ just having shoes on in the first place.
I used to be that way w/ dry skin but I started making my own lotion and I don't have that problem anymore.

I am constantly aware of the possibility of falling down stairs, landing on my face and crushing my jaw & all my teeth.

Anything to do w/ wasps.
My mother's hairbrush.

Impressive that she chose teaching as a profession - I'd say vomit is a reasonable risk in a school, not to mention the greater incidence of viruses doing the rounds. I have an emet friend who is a hospital doctor - the mind boggles :)

Def better to be able to laugh about it. My doctor takes the mickey out of me all the time, especially in winter when Norovirus is rife. He says he'll get me a special mask. :)

lol, I know. She has kids too, she says that she dreads them getting sick and ends up dumping vomit-care on her husband lol. In school she just "walks" out of the classroom. If 50mph can = a walk :D

I have a friend with emetophobia that is a teacher with children as well. She is a music teacher. She does the same if a kid vomits at her school she walks out of the room as fast as she can, and if her kids get sick her husband does the cleanup and care if it's a vomiting sickenss. I was also impressed by her profession and by the fact that she has kids. Those are 2 things I avoid because of my phobia. I also have an emet friend who runs a daycare O_O. Now that in my mine is just testing the limits of the phobia lol.

LMAO, oh we can move pretty fast when circumstances dictate!! I leapt over a table, shot out of a pub like a bullet and ran across two lanes of traffic when my friend threw up cider right in front of me.

My mother always used to joke that I would never be a nurse, doctor or teacher because of my phobia. In fact it is the main reason I chose not to go to university.....halls of residence, student union bars......you get the idea. :)

Man, how did we get to talking about puke on a fish forum hahaha.

I can clean up my dog's vom, is that too weird?
