Mafia Games....

Just my 2 cents worth but, I personally enjoy these games and try to improve my play each time. The games are based on player participation. That said, it seems to me that aliases seem to make a common problem (lack of participation) even worse. Many that would not do so under their own name tend to lurk under an alias.

I personally would have to consider long and hard before playing a game that makes aliases available.

So, if the names were not revealed, how did the person offended, know they were being attacked by specific individuals? Did another player or game Mod reveal the alias so the conclusion is specific? Or is a player assuming an alias is so and so and taking it personal...lots of conclusions without much fact to back it up.
I just don't know the answer to this I would assume it was games where someone signed up with a alias while others were known, thus the alias knew who was who, no one else except the mod knew who they were...

Oh snap I agree with RB on something.

Aliases are always known by the Mod unless they throw out the PMs or paper they wrote it on (LG) so if it there is a problem the Mod could contact a real MOD and just ban the real name and the game Mod could punt the alias from the game. I'm against reveals unless they want to reveal on their own. Lets not turn this game into a nanny state.
:silly:

I'm confused...what do you mean they tend to "lurk" people do that rather they have a alias or not??

What I mean is it seems to be worse with aliases. There are players that lay low all the time and players that don't. It seems to me that with aliases even more are not participating until they have to.

Okay I see what you mean...well there really isn't much we can do about "lurking". It sucks but it (just as UD's) are part of the game unfortunately. :(

I'll just say I did not realize it was such a prevailing opinion within the overall group that it's this important to keep alias names secret after games ended. So that's good to find out.

Had it just been something that wasn't all that important to most other players either way, it would have been simple enough for us to just agree to disclose them for the most part as a matter of course. As I said, I don't actually know why the secrecy matters so much now when it didn't used to matter at all or when that change in perspective actually started.

I guess I'll withdraw the suggestion. Thanks for all the discussion on this.

I guess it's tough to judge what should happen when no one really knows what happened. Well I don't anyway. I'm not saying I want to know either. I'd rather avoid getting into any more drama then I need to. If it is a serious matter I say this person should be warned and/or banned from future mafia games. Personal attacks should not be welcome in mafia games. If someone can't act like an adult while playing these games they shouldn't be playing.

Well said.

I'll go ahead and be a bad guy, it's part of my job anyway.

In the future, for games that I moderate, if an alias players acts like this: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/search.php?do=finduser&userid=83090&searchthreadid=261108&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1 I will mod-kill and reveal their name. I don't know the identity of this player but their actions are disrespectful at best. They are not participating, they are trolling, and we don't need this kind of passive aggressive immaturity in our games.

An alias should be a tool to change up the game a little, not an excuse to act like a petulant child.

For aliases who participate and play to have fun, no worries. :thm:

Link is to everything [AC] Driver8 posted in game 101. Not sure why the link doesn't work.
