Jay's Planted 180g Tank.

Done. =) Thank's for the suggestion it's much improved over the way it was I'll snap a pic when it clears up. I have to shift everything else more to the right as well.

I like the way it looks regardless of the position of the wood. I do suggest adding some rockwork though. I only say so because just wood and plants seems kind of blah and if you can make a nice rock pile or structure of some sort and make it look natural it would add more depth and a whole different persona to the tank. Just my 2 cents though. Keep up the good work. Ill be on the look out for updates as more changes are made :)

Agreed the rocks will server the purpose of keeping the substrate as high ground in my tank. I've kept a lot rock in my 120g but my problem as a collector for me is you then begin to lose area for root plants and that's a tough balance for me. My 45g long's only hardscape is rocks but I'm going to toe the line in my 180 if I can get it to work great if not it's an excuse for more plants...LOL

I love how the roots on the right side look!

Thanks it's much improved over what I was trying to do originally. Now I just have to organize what plants I do have in there differently. Let's hope it works out.

So I can't keep myself from making a mess of things trying to get to that sweet spot but I do believe I made progress. Ignore the cloudiness in the pictures that was disturbing the substrate hopefully it will clear by tomorrow.

Right

Left - the big chunk of driftwood won't stick out so bad once I have plants, rocks and more substrate around it. I had to get creative and use the back side of the monapi wood so the darker side blends in more with the rest of the driftwood. (I have it may as well use it.)

FTS

The plants aren't set still moving things around just wanted to see it somewhere instead of floating all over the tank, as you can see some still doing.

The back side of the left is going to get some color I think from the Ludwigia tomorrow. My problem is to many of my stem plants have similar foliage. I'll see how it works. I need to start peroxide and metricide on the algae and tone down the fertz since I don't have the plant mass in there anymore.

Another great tank, Jay! My nitpickiness says those red stems are too centered for a really "golden rule" placement...maybe some grassy-ish plant back there...lots of choices...several crypts like balansae, spiralis or retrospirals; vals, etc. Really love it! You've got the aquascaping knack!

Agreed. (my dilema)

1.) I was only looking to keep 1 type of red accent plant so I picked up A. renekii (middle) at Petsmart thinking it would be a fail (didn't have luck with it in the past) Then I stumbled on L. glandulosa (left) which was an even bigger fail but couldn't pass it up. They are both doing well to my surprise a good problem to have but my intention is to put them on opposite sides of the tank.

2.) I did the C. balansae didn't care for it way back when get's too tall and shades everything plus it didn't give me the fine grassy look I wanted. Switched gears to Vals well that presents it's own set of headaches so I added C. spiralis in hopes I can replace the Vals. (All this before the tank crash.) The C. spiralis appears to curl and a void the surface so I picked up C. helferi at Petsmart but it's too small and still transitioning to submersed growth. I do have a mix to target a background but they are all growing at different rates so it's hard to present at the moment.

3.) The last problem I'm having is with all the snow the landscaping place I was looking at rocks has them completely buried so I have to wait for a good melt. Needless to say my substrate hills or mounds aren't stay where they should so I'm just trying to keep plants down where I can for now.

4.) I do have another one that's the driftwood for the left but need to give that more thought.

Thank you....

So this was my last attempt at the middle which didn't work out so I'm on the hunt for more pieces of driftwood. I have some soaking now that was in my 90g but I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to work I'll have to get back with that later.

Anyway background plants will stay in place and until they grow out to determine if they need to be moved. Right A. reineckii and next to that on the left is Cypress helferi still transitioning to submersed but doing well. Between the L. cardinalis is the and the A. reineckii is a few stems of the H. pinnatifida

Going back to the drawing board on the left 1/3 can't balance the driftwood the way I want it as is the substrate keeps moving so if and when the rocks come into play that will work itself out.

I think I screwed up my math and was dosing higher than I should have while the tank was poorly planted and now have bba. This was the one algae none of the tanks had so I'm hoping that by weening it back it will disappear again. I've got quite a collection brewing in here already and that too maybe scaled back once I figure what I want to sacrifice. (It won't be lost it will either make its way down to the 55g or 45g) I'm going to need a spliter for my Co2 if I'm going to rig up a few more tanks that are still collection dust after the move...lol
