    Long-armed Shrimp ID - Australian?

Hi all, can anyone suggest a species name for this guy, and an idea of maximum size? I think it might be northern Australian. It does indeed have long 'arms', with red coloring at the joints, and gets VERY excited at feeding time.

Bottom Feeder to pick up leftovers

What is the 'stuff' - Is it food? IME guppies will eat until they are ready to explode, so if they're leaving food you are probably overfeeding. If it's mulm or waste, fish won't eat it.

My Tank Has Algae Problems PLEASE HELP!!

Of course a shorter lighting period would mean less time for photosynthesis, and therefore less algal growth, but less growth for other plants as well, and doing it during the day (when most people are out) would be a sensible time to do it. The question is whether it would have more of an...

What kind of strange water do I have?

My 2 - 3 year old planted tanks have nitrate readings of about 5 - 10. I really hope the OP can identify and solve the problem before buying any more fish, if this has been going on for several years.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. :)

Stocking a 20 Gallon long? Please help!!

I would definitely encourage you to get live plants, as they will take up ammonia and other waste products from your fish, and they can go in during cycling. If you are going to get Bolivians for a tank that size, I would suggest you break up the sight lines, as they can be rather territorial...

Long-armed shrimp or Ancistrus cirrhosus - which is the star algae-eater?

Hi, need some educated guesses: I recently put two long-armed shrimp (3-4cm) and an Ancistrus catfish (4-5cm) in a small tank to quarantine them before they went into other tanks. This tank had a film of brown algae on the two sides I don't clean. I was surprised to see, a few days after...

What kind of snails are these??

I believe 'mystery snail' is an alternate name for 'briggs' (Pomacea diffusa, as Juice said, formerly often referred to as Pomacea bridgesii) and other similar species.

Will this cause a mini cycle

I would guess the bacterial colony would bounce back quickly to the change, as long as the remaining filter has enough capacity for the waste produced in the 29 (which, admittedly, is difficult to judge). I would go ahead and do it, and test the water for ammonia in the next few days. And...

    Pale Bolivian Rams?

My Bolivians (1 male, 1 female) took a long time to settle in - very shy at first, and they were slow to recover from a tank change and a move. Feeding is a good sign. They might just need more time.

What kind of strange water do I have?

I have two questions: How big is the tank? Are you sure it is cycled, given that nitrates are 0? What fish have you been buying? Okay, that's three questions...

    Bolivian Ram?

I would recommend the Bolivian Ram - nice fish to keep. I currently have two (mother and child). They can be a bit territorial, but I wouldn't worry in a tank that size. From what I've seen of mine, I'd be very surprised if they were predatory; mine mostly ignore other fish.

Murky water - with out much algae - diffused light?

Has it been murky the whole time? What substrate do you have? What sort of filtration? What water changes are you doing? Tannins will discolor the water but I don't think they can make it murky as such. A photo might help work out the problem.
