    Pre-Soaking Turface

:thm: If you're worried about it, better to just add root tabs.

    Eradicating bladder snails

Your plan has one minor issue. You have to see every single snail and remove it. And when it comes to bladder snails, sometimes they're so small they are easy to miss. I haven't used assassin snails, but it's on my to do list. I hear they'll wipe out a 10g tank in a month or so. You could...

Who has 3 watts or more per gallon?

Jag, With your 3.3 wpg, what's your photoperiod? In my 45g I've had all sorts of problems over it's lifetime. My biggest problem was this weird stuff that was like a cross between thread/fuzz algae and diatoms. It was like brown polyfil that grew 4-5 inches per day if left alone. I...

    UV sterilization Help

Yeah, I picked up a bunch of cardinals one time during a group buy for $1/each. Turned out, the whole shipment had ich. Popped on the UV, didn't lose a single one.

    Rams

I don't think that the Angel fish will like the GBR's too much, and vise versa.

    Rams

Saram summed up how to sex them. Your tank could handle 2 pairs, but I wouldn't do it. In my experience, one pair tends to become extremely dominant over the other so it's nicer to just have one pair per tank. I would recommend a pair---male and female. The interaction between pairs is very...

Who has 3 watts or more per gallon?

Jag, These are the fixtures I have over my tanks and my lighting options: 2x96w PC over a 45g (4.26 wpg)----either one bulb on or both 2x96w PC over a 46g bow front (4.17 wpg)---either one bulb on or both 6x54w T5HO over a 75g (4.32 wpg)----2 bulbs, 4 bulbs, or all 6 on On the 45g and 46g...

    Floaters

Valisneria will do exactly what you are talking about, same with lilies. Stems like ludwiga and rotala will grow straight up out of the water...possibly not exactly what you are looking for.

Uhhh, too much co2 i think, fish dont look good

pH fluctuations due to CO2 are insignificant to fish. The real reason we are concerned with pH changes is actually due to the changes in TDS. Fish don't like rapidly changing levels of TDS. pH fluctuations from changing levels of CO2 are fine. You'll be able to get just as good of an output...

Uhhh, too much co2 i think, fish dont look good

Like phan mc said, 1 package of yeast per bottle is extremely excessive. You only need about 1/4 tsp yeast per bottle. If you have an airstone, put it on a timer so that it comes on at lights off, and turns off 2-3 hours before lights on. It'll solve your problem.

    Reasons to breed?

As others said, the validation that your tank/fish are healthy enough that difficult species feel comfortable enough to breed. That's one reason I don't keep live bearers...too easy to breed: no feeling of success and you end up with WAY too many fish. And like Kahuna, my other reasons are...

Uhhh, too much co2 i think, fish dont look good

Without more information, I really doubt it was the CO2. DIY CO2 on a 72g is really difficult, so getting to levels that are dangerous to fish is unlikely. What's your yeast setup like? I suppose a monster DIY co2 setup could pose a threat, but it'd really have to be huge. Have you made any...

    SAFE WINDEX

On the website, it says it contains ethanol and "plant based cleaners"(whatever that means). Best practice is to be careful and not spray it in the tank....but that goes for, and works for, any cleaner. Vinegar is great for cleaning things that go inside a tank, or the outside if you want...

    SAFE WINDEX

I'm just curious to know how you know it's safe? Like, what did you to do know it wouldn't hurt fish. Did you accidentally spill some in your tank or did you speak to somebody at P&G? And also I wanted to know what you meant by safe, ie. you used it and(as you mentioned later) the fumes didn't...

    SAFE WINDEX

By what virtue do you call it safe? Did you accidentally spill a bottle in your tank or something? Barring that catastrophe, probably just as safe as Windex, just supposedly not as harmful for the environment once diluted down enough. Vinegar is also a good, cheap, "safe", cleaner.

JMHart's Celestial Pearl Danio Breeding Experiment

Interesting. Since this is a breeding setup, I left it bare-bottomed---- do you think I'd be better off adding something to the bottom? Also, I've been varying the food, because I can't quite seem to find anything that they really devour. Live black worms seem to be the favorite, but that's...

JMHart's Celestial Pearl Danio Breeding Experiment

One week in, nothing to report. Simply putting the three in one tank and letting them sit may not be the way to go. I've read that separateing the males from the females, using a plastic divdier in the same tank, for a few days and then letting them mix can result in spawning. Anybody?
