Sounds like your tank is pretty full just from your list above......how many of each do you have and around what size are they?

If your nitrates are at 80 you need to do around a 75% water change to get them around the 20ppm mark .....anything 40ppm or lower is probably fine but most people try to keep them in the 20ppm range or lower...... I would also start doing atleast a 30% (10 gallon) water change and gravel...

Dont think there is a vent to it from what I have read... Is an electric baseboard heater so heat rises stright up from it...doesnt blow out.

You should gravel vac every week when you do a water change..... Mine collects alot in a week as I am always pulling yuck out of the gravel when I vac it ... I couldnt imagine how much stuff was in your gravel after 4 months.... This is probably the reason for your water parameters being all...

Goto Petsmart.com and print off thier online prices and take them to the store and they will pricematch..... You can get a 25w Stealth for the 5g and a 50w Stealth for the 10g ... I bought a 50w one for a 10g I have there last night...took in printoff and they pricematched it...Store price...

Best bet might be to buy a new pci nic card (they are pretty cheap) and disable the onboard nic and install the new nic and drivers.

The 25% rule you are using works out to about my $1 a gallon rule... Example being you can get a decent 55g kit for around $200 and then put around $100 in a stand...This gives you a total of $300 and using the 25% rule it will get you paying $75 for a used tank/stand combo :)
