I would get atleast a 300w heater or maybe even two 200w ones to put at each end to keep water temps more stable across the whole tank.

Thats fine...just move over as much gravel as you can...You could even put it in a large bowl and just sit it in your tank if you want to move several handfuls over.Then when done with it you can take the bowl and gravel out at the same time ;)

Black looks good !! All my tanks have black backgrounds...The first thing I do to a new tank when I get it is to tape it up and break out the Krylon spraypaint on it :)

Depending on what shape it is in then it could be a good deal....Most 55g kits can be had new for $200 or less and a pretty good stand is around $100. So you are getting everything at about half price of new. I would just look it all over good and be sure it looks good before I made a final...

I wont tell ;) Just be sure to move over some filter media from your other tank to help seed it (you could put it in the empty filter tray you have)...Also you can get a pair of new cheap pantyhose and cut one of the toe parts out about 6-8 inches up and fill it with gravel from your other...

That would basically be upto you as to what you want to use ...Filtration will be the same with either one...The spraybar will just help cut down on the water current as it spreads it out across a longer area instaed of all of it out in one spot.

Dont put the steel wool in your filter.... either get some nylon pot scrubbers or get some bio-balls or something similar..... You can run the filter without anything it that tray for now if you just want to run it. I am assuming you are going to do a fishy cycle if you are planning on adding...

Cories will pick around of the bottom all day long .....Just because they are doing it doesnt mean they are eating anything...they are just always on the hunt for it ;)

Yup thats what I was talking about....you can find them at most dollar stores. Put as many of them in the filter basket as you can and it will give the good bactera alot of surface area to cling too.

You can buy slate tile in different sizes from Home Depot or Lowes fairly cheap...Then you can stack it as is or break it up to form caves and such. Here is a pic of a 29g my wife is cycling for a pair of Convicts.... Cost about $25 tax and all for the slate tiles...We bought 4" and 6"...
