Just got my Salvini pair from Jeff Rapps!

My plan is to get a 20 long and move everything but the bleeding hearts over...I will probably trade them in at the lfs...but if I find a good deal on a 29g I could do that too

    bought some danios

If the 17g has the same footprint as a 10g then the danios will not be any better off in it as they are in the 10g now....fish need horizontal swimming area not vertical (fish swim from side to side..not up and down)

    Am I ready for Fish?

How were you cycling the tank? And how long has it been cycling? The lack of nitrates has me concerned about your cycle as usually you should have a pretty high level once a cycle finishes...Then the big water change is done to reduce the nitrates before adding fish.

pet shop trading me my angels for plants I am tickled!

Only issue I see is if you let the 29g sit for acouple weeks with no fish all the good bacteria will die off and you will have to cycle it again. So you could either move a few fish over from the 55g or atleast run the filter that was on the 29g on your 55g to keep the good bacteria alive until...

Just got my Salvini pair from Jeff Rapps!

Nice fish...I just found out a LFS in Nashville gets their cichlids from Jeff.... And they have a pair now so as soon as I figure what to do with the community fish I have in my 55g it will soon be home to a pair of Salvini :)

Cracked Plastic Frame on 55 Gal

Your best bet might be to just get a new frame....you can get one here: http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=43 Could get alittle pricey with shipping...but still cheaper than a new tank....and or alot of water damage due to tank failure.

switching to sand - cycling new tank

If you have a pot big enough to boil it in then that is the best thing to do with it and also give it a scrubbing with some sort of nylon bristled brush to knock off any dirt or small pieces...If you cant boil it atleast get a bucket or even a trashcan and let it soak in water for awhile (1-2...

    Petco driftwood...

If you have a pot big enough you could boil it too.... The bleach would work but I wouldnt mix up too stout of a mixture to soak it in as it will absorb alot of it and might take a few soakings in heavy dechlorinated water to help reduce it.

    Distinguish Between Perfecto and All-Glass?

I think there are only very slight differences in the two....just measure the inside lip between the top braces and then measure the hood to see it it will sit in there if you are going the 2 x 24" route.

switching to sand - cycling new tank

You could go ahead and move them all over and run the filters from the 55g and the 29g on the 125g tank for a few weeks to help establish a good bacteria colony in the new 125g filter. Also take a new pair of cheap pantyhose and put a few handfuls of gravel in the toes of them and hang them over...

    Another 10 Gallon Stocking Question

If the filter came with the tank it is more than likely just barely enough for the 10g ,so you would need a bigger one....Also you really need atleast a 100w heater for a 20g. The easiest way to figure the size heater you need it to do it by 5w per gallon ( 5w x 20 = 100w) It seems that when...

I fell in love today. His name is Python!

Just stick the tube end in the tank....run it out the door.... and give a good suck or two on the end that is outside...you can cup your hand around the end if you dont want to put your mouth on it.... you can also see the water coming since the tubing is clear so you know to get your mouth away...
