    Covering my Fluorite?

I've never seen a tank with mixed sand/flourite that looked good. My advice if you want sand as a substrate, remove the flourite and use 100% sand.

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

Thanks! A couple of other people on other forums made some good suggestions about the driftwood. One guy actually pointed out exactly what was bothering me. The driftwood draws your eye to the outside of the tank, too far away from center. The DW is actually two large pieces and several...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

Now I get some action. I went to the Stone Center of Georgia, picked up about 100 lbs of river rock for $20(can't beat that) and brought it home: Couple of hits with the sledge hammer and I get some good stuff to work with: Before I block it from view, here is a shot of the completed...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

Here's some shots of my in tank plumbing. Since I didn't have the light on the tank yet, the shots aren't great. Hopefully you can get an idea of what the in tank stuff looks like: And then I put in substrate. Substrate is 3 9L bags of AS Amanzonia II, then with about as much used...

    cheapest par

Apogee is definitely the way to go. Check out the reef forums for a group buy. I got mine on a group by through Reef Central a year or so ago. Around $200, but the buy was probably for 100+ units. Fun tool

Found this and thought I'd share - ebay deal

Not such a deal now: $193 still with an hour to go. More than $40 for used HOTs is a rip off.

Whats your average monthly electric bill?

Winter is the 3.8 cents per kwh, and summer is 7.8 cents per kwh. I didn't specify the summer rates, but I did the calculation, so my yearly average is correct.

    Lighting Question/Opinion

Well, if it were me, I'd probably install all 6 x 96w, just in case.

    Lighting Question/Opinion

Well, personally I wouldn't use PC bulbs, I'd use T5HO, but if you already have them or are dead set on it, I go with 4x96w of PC. That will give you plenty of light. You can throw in another 2x96w in there if you want it for a mid day burst, but I wouldn't run it for more than a couple of...

Whats your average monthly electric bill?

I actually calculated it out a few weeks ago. Our house is 2400 sq ft, 4 bed, 2 bath. 2 people. Average monthly electric is $120(thank you, Georgia Power). I currently have a 60-P high tech planted running. It's contribution to our bill is: I'm bringing a 120g high tech planted online...

    FS 55g ~setup and Magnum 350, Atlanta, P/U Only

Cleaning some things out. I've got a 55g tank and stand, with under gravel filter(all you need is the air pump), 100w heater, and 40w strip light. Everything is in good shape except the stand. The stand is structurally intact, but I had it in the under my deck and either my dog or a raccoon...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

Another update. I had a minor setback yesterday. I redid my plumbing around the the MD7 and came out with some pluses and minuses. Instead of hard plumbing the MD7 in, I used about 2" of flexible tubing to connect it to some nipples. This will reduce flow slightly, but it SIGNIFICANTLY reduces...

    CO2 idea

Check out my plumbing: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2264527&postcount=52 The MD7 is the pump feeding my inline reactor. CO2 is fed into the line directly before the pump, which chops it up and sends it into the reactor. Then, there is a line from the top of the reactor...

    Tightest schooling fish

Rummynose tetras are pretty much universally recognized as the tightest schooling fish out there. However, how big is the tank? Fish school as a defense mechanism against predators. They like to be close to each other, so that each member of the school can see all the other members. In that...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

Little update: I'm glad I made it so the two circulation loops could be isolated. I started to fill it all up and found a pretty bad leak coming from around my MD7. The housing has a big crack in it. I'll have to fix that later, but... Since I urgently need to get it cycling, I just closed...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

At 5/8", the back pressure is not significant to the pumps, and it becomes even less significant as you increase the return line. My return is 3/4". There is a 5/8" restriction at the Hydor inline, but that's not something to worry about. Point is, I've run Eheims like this before on a 5/8"...
