I posted this a while back about bubbles with a Penguin 125
(http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24073)
I've pissed around with this filter and bubbles for long enough... I think it's time for something else. I've tried every type of changes, filter media...
look over in the brackish forum here at AC, puffers are talked about all the time.
but for my tank:
Cheap Whisper 5-15 filter... works great though so I have no complaints.
I have 3 of them in there (all females I think)... they aren't messy eaters from what I have seen. I had trouble...
I'm kinda worried... I know they have knocked out most of the snail population in my tank... I haven't seen many snails in the last couple of weeks. I tried sticking some tubifex in on a toothpick, and nobody bit at it... they would look at it, but just turn away. One of them also has a sunken...
I've been battling the same problem with my Penguin bio wheel. I emailed Marineland and they told me it's cause my tank isn't cylced, and the bubbles are actually a bacteria outbreak  I've had it stocked for 5 months.
I don't have an air stone or anything... it's weird...
if it floats, it won't sprout
they have a warranty on them... if they don't sprout, you can send them back and get more for free. Not sure if it's worth paying shipping when a new pack is so cheap.
I have some dwarf lilly in my 5 gallon now... doesn't seem to be growing much even though...
:shake:
10 gallon tank
one Angelfish - no, they get too big and need at least 20 gallons
one Dwarf Gouramis - it would be ok with a group of tetras or any smaller community schooling fish
one neon tetra - no, they should be kept in groups of at least 4 or 5
one cory cat - would work...
I agree with AFG
Also, that figure 8 puffer requires a tank that size just for himself; plus they need brackish water. You have tropical, cold water, and brackish water species COMBINED. For all the fish you mentioned, you should have 3 completely different setups for each type.
I would blame it on the lace rock... I had a piece of that in mine and it sent the pH through the roof, along with hardness... try taking it out and doing a couple of medium sized water changes over the next couple of days.
