If you can, I would take the mosses out so they wouldn't die. But then you would have to inspect them to see if the pests are on them.

Well I didn't take out any of the mosses and I lost the nice looking star like one. The round leafed one seems to bee thriving but there is some hairy looking algae or some thing algae like that is just growing out of control. here are the pics I promised

Yeah that hairy mass a couple of inches from the left side of the pic. I found it almost completely submerged in the drainage ditch. I thought that it might be a type of moss that got submerged but now I wonder if it is just a type of algae.
Check out what I just found. It is a little too small for my crappy 3 inch focal distance camera but you can kinda see the scale from the tiny 3-5 day old guppies and the air stone. I am almost positive that I have a freshwater clam. I guess it could be a seed pod but it sure looks like a clam. I need to get my mom's camera over here because it has a macro mode with a focal distance of 1.5 inches. This would let me take a picture that is detailed enough for me to see.
If anyone thinks they know how to care for this clam it would be much appreciated. Its weird I was just reading about them a week or 2 ago and wondered where I might find one. Didn't expect to find one in my tank.
Clams,and muscles are filter feeders they feed on nutrients and microscopic animals in the water column,observe the water flow rate in the drainage ditch that you obtained it from,some clams/muscles require a high flow rate.others are well off in little to no flow at all.I have had a freshwater muscle growing in my tank for a good two years now.They are very interesting creatures.
well I think it was either a decaying seed pod or it was already dead. cause when i tried to move it, and I was very gentle, it split apart. then I lost the pieces in the sand.
i tried that in my 10 gal newt tank. it put alot of strain on the filter and it made so much noise it was ungodly. plus it left clowdyness all over the glass. it was pretty bad and then afterwards the filter needed cleaned, also as the water lvl goes down the filter has a harder time going (duh)
