12 Volt Man's New Fishroom Thread

Good thread ,keep the pics coming.

thanks everyone.

65 is set up. I will go and get the fish from Mom and Dads on Wed. and rescue them from their cramped 30 gallon temporary home LOL

tank is murky because of the full load of salt I had to put in (I keep the specific gravity at 1.020 or so) and the lights are the double powerglo's for my new 150, because I left the lights I had for the tank at my parents place too..

ps I am sure glad I replaced the AGA bulbs with the powerglo's..huge difference..

not really evident when you just look at the fixture with the light on. but once you actually put it on a tank with water, its like night and day. the powerglos' are significantly brighter..

actually no, its normal aquarium gravel - because this tank started off as a true brackish aquarium (sp gravity 1.005 at first) back in 2004 when I first set it up..I slowly increased the salinity over time. I used to have big archers in there too, but I had a nitrite spike in 2006 after adding medicine for ich to the tank - wiped out my bio filter and they didn't make it..:(

I do keep shells in the tank to keep the pH up, my hermits seem to do fine.

I have been thinking about switching to aragonite or marine sand, but have held off because I don't get very much algae in this tank at all - probably because the pH is on the lower side of normal saltwater pH and I do NOT use RO water which is pretty standard with saltwater folks too - cuts down on algae growth.

I am afraid if I go with the 'correct' substrate, I will end up battling more algae.

my monos have been doing great for the last 5 years, so I haven't got around to changing over yet..:)

here is are some shots from last year of the monos that will be going back in tomorrow evening:

naw, its easy. same as fresh - only you have to watch salinity, and a protein skimmer helps to keep the wastes from accumulating - although I don't have one of those either LOL

my tank is a stripped down version of a normal marine tank.

notice: I have no live rock, no protein skimmer, no sand/crushed coral LOL

I have saltwater and thats it :)

but for my monos and a few crabs, thats all I need :)
