150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

this is what I was thinking for my 150 - a 24" wide tank comes out 30" from my wall (since I am using an AC110 as part of my filtration) and its too much.

the owner of the LFS where I used to work just emailed me, and yes, the Aqueon 150 IS available in black silicone, it is special order, takes 4-6 weeks to get and costs $40 more..

I am going to tell him to order me one in. yay!

Exactly - my 18" will likely be out 22" or 24" when it's all said and done.

Yes, you can special order black seams with an Aqueon - they told me today 4 weeks but it might be done a little sooner. He also told me that the clear silicone is a little more durable than the black - jokingly he said the black would only last 25 years and the clear about 30.

I'm gonna say if you have the space for the 210 go for it. It would be a dream to plant one, saddly I have neither the space, money or to be honest the patience to do such a project. If you got that fully planted it would be a perfect discus home for about 7 to 9. Not to mention the armada of small schoolers you would have.

Come on guys - I need a little more argument for the 210 or we are looking straight down the 150 gun barrel (lol).

The bid / pricing just came in from the LFS (cherry with black seams):

What do you think??

Size / Tank & Versa / Stand & Canopy / Total

120 478.90 1166.90 1645.80
150 667.70 1389.90 2057.60
180 808.90 1526.90 2335.80
210 905.90 1526.90 2432.80

The most bang for the buck seems to be the 210 - just won't fit in the room!

The 150 bid is up about $100 from a couple of weeks ago. I had heard that Aqueon had a price increase.

our dollar has caused tank prices to go up and down in the last year.

eg. last year the AQ 150 was 569 canadian.

then, it dropped as low as $399 canadian when our dollar was at its strongest.

now, it is 440 CAN.

+40 more for black silicone :)

ps from what I understand the black silicone is actually guarenteed to last longer than the clear.

black sililcone is often warrantied for up to 20-25 years whereas the clear is generally only warrantied from 10-15...
