150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Seriously!!! I really doubted your skills... But it looks like you had all the required tools up your sleeve and did a great job on stand/canopy. Now i cant wait to see it stained.

Thanks a bunch BK - it's not done yet (lol). Still have to glue up and install the doors for the canopy and then trim it all out before the staining begins.

Wow, well this just puts my little projects to shame!! Truly impressive.... and envy invoking of course! :D

Your wood "sculpture" looks amazing!

If your still interested in any stain input.... I like the red oak as well but was that sample just one coat? If it was once you apply a second coat you may lose some of your fine lines but I like it anyways. :) The light Cherry would be my second choice. Putting the finish on the sample piece is a good idea too.

I have tried to read through the whole project but 84 pages is a LOT, after the first 30 or so you start skimming for pictures. :) Have you taken any courses or anything?

Dude, this is truly impressive.

I'm crazy busy at the moment and don't have much time to catch up on AC, but each time I do there at least 20 posts here of update goodness. I could never tackle a DIY of this caliber; the pride you'll have when this is done can't be paralleled.... your (literally) stand, canopy and tank. Congrats so far and keep 'em comin!

Hey Vader - thanks again for all the support!

Really great progress! An impressive canopy. How much will it all weigh..any idea?

And how much ease will there be for routine tank maintenance without removing everything?

Thanks Bishop!

I would say the stand weighs about 80 - 90 lbs and the canopy about 25 - 30 (without the lights, ballasts, and fans).

I am still in the process of designing the front access to the canopy - figuring the clearance I need to open the versa top, clear the lights, etc. My plan is to be able to feed, fert, and do routine maintenance and WC's without taking off the canopy. We will, however, need to remove the entire canopy for major cleanings and plantings / re-plantings.

I must say Coy that is a beautiful stand and hood. Doesn't DIY feel good? So when I ever get a new tank I must employ you for the construction of its hood and stand, believe it :)
Maybe you could whip up a house for me as well :P

Thanks Matt - my retainer for a house is a bit higher than for a stand / canopy (lol)!

Thanks for checking it out and the great support!
