It seems that goldfish are such a focal point for controversy. I have heard so many people insist that, for example, one goldfish in a 10 gallon tank will die, be stunted, develop terrible diseases, etc. Whereas, as long a tank appropriate for the fish's size is provided, there is no reason a young goldfish cannot thrive in a tank that would obviously be too small for an adult fish. I've researched the idea of "stunted" goldfish, and outside of a goldfish being kept in a bowl with filthy water and little food, everything I've read points to it being utter poppycock. Goldfish will continue to grow regardless of tank size, just like koi, just like trout, just like sharks.
