165G Build

Looking good!

Thanks...got roped into work stuff all morning...hoping to get to work on the tank sometime this afternoon. Will post updates as I can.

Stupid work getting between me and my tank. :angryfire:

Stone and gravel places and most very large landscaping retailers have the best price on stones and rock work...usually just pennies a pound....and often it is free...

Very nice tank very nice find. One thing about glass as long as is isent cracked its almost always looks ready to display.

Maybe you can keep the 50 in the basement as well, just leave it empty on its stand in the basement for a while until the wife gets used to it, then leave it empty but filled with water in the same spot for a while, before you know it will will be full of fish and not even be noticed LOL. That's how I got away with it.

Not a bad idea...

So, was able to break away from work for a bit...

2nd pic is large piece of wood that I pulled from the 55 and placed in the 165

I'm still not sure how my final aquascape will end up and to what level of plantedness I will go. I pulled 4 baby java ferns from my planted tank since they were just floating about. Put them in a glass with some flourish excel and plant supplement for the time being. (1st pic) Room temp is only about 68 - maybe cooler near the window.

Do you guys think they'll be OK like that for a while - day or so?

Any thoughts on how the java fern will do under the generic lighting that came with the tank? Don't have the wattage off hand, but it's just a cheap-o strip light that came with the tank (see 3rd pic). I have a 3' strip light leftover from when I upgraded my planted tank lighting but that's a generic bulb too.

Thoughts?

fI think java ferns would grow in the dark. My anubias, java fern, swords, and crypts all do pretty good just over 1wpg. Mine too are under the generic "all glass" style double strip light (2x 40w 48") with 5000k bulbs. May not thrive and bust out of the tank, but will live and grow until, or if, you decide to upgrade.

Thanks Katana.

I may invest in a couple new bulbs, but need to throw any availible funds toward a second filter and stock before I can look at any major lighting upgrades.

Morning update...

Was up past midnight last night but got aquascape complete. Attached the 4 baby java ferns to some of the drift wood. I think it looks pretty good.

Stirred up a bit of sand in the process. Still a little haze to the water this morning. I'm going to let the water clear up a bit more then will take some pics.

I'll be anxious to get some feedback from y'all.

Great progress.........

I got impatient...some new pics

Here's the aquascape I built last night. Water is still a bit hazy from last night's work so not the best pics.

First two, if side-by-side, represent the whole tank. The others are a couple random shots zoomed in.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
