20 gallon community tank

Uh-Oh. I just figured out a potential problem. What if my neons or cherry shrimp or otos breed? I don't want to have to take care of hundreds of fish! Would the fish in there eat their own eggs or some fishes' other eggs?
I doubt your fish will ever try to breed like rabbits. They will simply eat their own eggs. As far as shrimps go, do note neons are carnivorous so they will grab, if given the opportunity, as many shrimp larva as they can.

Now I have a new question. I can't make up my mind on what substrate to have in the community tank. Should I get pool filter sand, alot of gravel, or one bag of eco-complete? Would one 20lb bag of eco-complete fill the bottom of a 20long to 2 inches? Or should I just have cheap sand and fill it up to however I want?

Would sand work good for a mediumly planted tank? I also want to clean the substrate very easily.

i'd go get a 50lb bag of playsand for $5 from HD and then fill it up to your tastes, put the extra in storage for your next tank or just go dump it in the planters.

I'm not getting corys and the title says 20 gallon community tank. And the betta is already with me and in a little bowl.
I'm gonna get sand and not gravel.

Ok just to add a note here lol...i bought about 27 cherry shrimp for my 20g. Well my fish left a total of 3 for me the rest are gone and i have seen the 2 neons pulling a cherry shrimp apart. Love throwing money out the window.haha

Minor setback, I'll have to wait until late March or early April because I don't have my money to buy everything yet. But I'm still doing this whole community tank.

What would I have to do to get a Blue gourami? Would I have to upgrade to a 30G? Or would the gourami beat up the betta or something like that?
