20 gallon community tank

I won't be having the betta in the tank anymore because my sister will have it in a 5 gallon tank in her room.

Now about that blue gourami...
Would it fit?

EDIT: I found out that blue gouramis get pretty large, so instead I might be getting a dwarf blue gourami.

dwarfs are awsome! in the first year of my FW tank I always had at least one, they are colorful and grow to reconize you.

I would say that a 20 long with
1 male dwarf gourami
6-7 tetras or rasboras (harlequen rasboras are IMO a better choice then neons because they are less likely to get sick)
2-4 ottos (however many you need to clean the tank of algae)

be careful when housing shrimp with gouramis, gouramis have been known to eat small shrimp.

I'm thinking that the Gourami would be the centerpiece of my tank and would look beautiful in my tank.

I have a plastic plant that is very dense so the shrimp might not get eaten. Only the ones who venture out.

^ If you read the post 3 posts above you, you would know where the betta is now.

The betta is now going in a 5 gallon tank in my sister's room.

What's the point in having them if they can't come out from hiding? I would suggest you just take out cherries if their survival is slim. Kind of a waste of money. But ultimately, it's up to you still.

Those shrimp swim around. They will get eaten. Mine were all eaten by small tetras, even the adult shrimp.

If you want to have shrimp with tetras, try Amano shrimps. My tetras - or any other fish - didn't touch those. They won't breed, but they get pretty old.

So I wanted to have fun and see how much money it would be to set up a 20gallon long tank like I want to. So here's how it goes:

20G tank: $29.99 at LFS

Whiper 40 Power Filter: $19.99 if I price-match

Visi-Therm Stealth heater (25W): $16.99

Eco-Complete Substrate: $19.99

All the Fish/Shrimp I need to buy: ~$30

All the plants I need to buy: ~$20

Fish Food: ~$15

And if you put it all together: $151.96

Wow, this is an expensive hobby. But since my birthdays coming up, I should get $200 so I should be in the clear by late March.

I've put together a new list of stuff with updates:

20G long: $29.99 at LFS

Whisper 20 HOB: $12.96 (Price-match)

Visi-Therm Stealth heater (50W): $14.96 (Price-match)

50lb bag of playsand: $3.99

All the fish/shrimp I need to buy: ~$35

All the plants I need to buy: ~$20

Fish Food: ~$10

And if you put it all together: $126.90

Update: I will not buy a whisper 40 filter anymore. Here's why

One question before I get the tank, would African Dwarf Frogs be able to survive the trip up for air on a regular 30 Gallon tank?

I'll get the tank tomorrow.
