20 long reef build

Sorry, thought you were using IO.

yea its the instant ocean reef crystals. ok so i didnt want my little frag of favia to be able to attack other corals, so i went and got a small round piece of live rock just for it. first off let me say, i have seen its tenticals every night, and the other night i spot feed it with crushed up brine shrimp(is this good) so i think this little coral might live, but here is what scares me, my light is 24 inches long, and my tank is well 30", i do have it hanging, its about 4-5 inches from the water. the coral frag is in the front corner, not directly under the light, and the flow there is not that high, maybe a little low. my question is, is this a good place for it, will it do well, and what other foods should i feed it and how often? here are some pics so you can see what i mean
i tested my water- PH-8, Kh-12, ammonia-0, NO2-0 NO3-0 C-400, P-0.

Perfectly fine where it is. Favias are not high light corals.

Looks healthy. Hopefully the cycle won't kill it. maybe take it to the LFS and let them hold it until the tank cycles?

Coral warfare is something you will end up having to deal with eventually. Just part of having a reef tank. Good what you did with this frag though. It will grow over that rock nicely.

ok i tested again
ph-8.0 kh-11,ammonia-0 no2-0 no3-0 c-around 400, p-0. im starting to get a nice diatom algae plum, i think im about ready to get my CUC, i will post a pic later, most rocks have a nice amount of brown, but not all of them. also what things would you recommend for my CUC

6 day cycle is kind of quick. Did you ever see any nitrates?

Was all your rock bought live and if so do you know if it was fully cured when you bought it?

Don't start with a massive CUC. A handful of astera, margarita, small turbos, ceriths and nassarius snails would be a a good start. The only thing I know of that will eat diatoms is a fighting conch. If they are small I would get 2. The diatoms are going to go away on their own though. Remember to acclimate them well when you think the tank is ready.

I thought it was fast too. Yes I did see nitrates and some nitrites. The place I go has long cured bins and bins with lightly cured rock. The long cured was 7.99 that'd what I have. Also got a little live sand. I did not plan on the cuc for a week from now. Ill keep testing

Ok, that somewhat explains it. Always a good idea to take it slow.

i know, and every one know that taking it slow is the hardest thing ever.
here are some pics of the algae, i think its diatom
