210g Build Thread....

Is that all stable?
Yep. I stacked most of it dry and shook the tank to see if it would tumble. All I did with new pieces is stick the m in place of similar dead pieces. I poked at them and turned them till they found a place where they were solid.
At least I hope it's stable.:D

Looking good.. Did you ever find more cromie's??

Nope. The LFS that I bought my LR from only had three also. I suppose I could buy three and three, but I would rather get them from one tank.
Or is that silly?
It's ok, as Grins said it gives me more time to do that 85g water change.

I just finished my first water change. Whew! I cheated a bit and only changed 70g instead of 85, because I happened to have 4 18g plastic tubs, and that worked out to a nice 72g. Before the change, my nitrates were at 20, and I'll see soon where it is now. I hurried the change a bit and assumed that I got the salt mix right in the tubs and got the temp right by feel. turns out that I had slightly too much salt in the tub water (1.030 or so) but I did not fill up the tubs enough anyway, so I had to top off w/freshwater. Soooo....my SG is around 1.022-1.023. Is this acceptable or should I bump it up to where it was before (1.024-1.025)? The only thing I cannot figure out is that my filter level is slightly higher than it was but the tank level is slightly lower.
Anyway, I'm excited because it's time for fish!
Here is a picture of my water change helper...

get them while there young!

Awesome tank man. thats alot of water....

Cant wait till you get fish in there, been following this thread for some time.

When its all stocked and you have all your rock seeded, its going to be a awesome site just to sit there and stare for hours, got to invite me over some time!

you can get diffrent chromises from diffrent tanks BUT Its a lil better when you get them all at one time since they for the most part have establishes their pecking order, if you buy three here or three there, they will always re-establish a new one. I agree that spending 210+ lbs of LR is going to be a lot of dough, but you can sometimes get them to cut you a deal, I got mine for about 3.50/lbs kinda helped when I got about 300+ lbs of it. I think the very first fish I bought was a lawnmower bleeny, we was awesome, then he went down my overflow into my sump and never made it, 2nd fish was a false percula who has grooooown, I still have her to this day and is by far a fav fish of mine. If you are going to someday do large fish like tangs or angels I would get them as a juvi as watch them grow. Tank looks good as well keep up the good work, I was going to do a thread like yours but, im lazy and am usually swamped doing other things, kudos.

I think he just wanted to play in the water:)
Thanks, and it is a lot of water. Wow. I really was unsure what to do with it so I siphoned right out of the tank and into a septic line cleanout just outside of our back door. I bought a garden hose and some fittings that are designated fish use only, along with the tubs, but I will probably get a 35g trash can for future changes, along with a heater.
The one thing I really remember about this tank when it was set up originally is how I could just sit and watch it...I hope that I can bring it back to what it once was.
Anytime you're in the Shenandoah Valley, stop on by and check it out. Once I get fish....
Thanks for protecting our freedom, btw. :y220e::cheers::y220e:

I'm gonna check tomorrow and see if my LFS got any Chromis in....I guess it's a good idea not to buy fish right off the truck?
Yeah the LR was a stumper....I really wanted to use all of the rock that came with the tank for personal reasons, so I figured strategically adding new rock to it I can get it seeded again. I don't mind waiting....it took me two years to get the d*mn thing in the house! And I have the live sand, so I guess if I don't stock it to the limit right off, I'll be ok.
Thanks for following the thread!

I have before, chromis are pretty hardy to begin with, some people like to see if they can hadle the stress from the vendor to the lfs, by having it sit for a few days in their tanks, but as I see the fish is stressed, and havings it in the lfs tanks wont make a diffrence once it gets moved again and stressed out again moving it from the lfs to your tank (plus it cuts down on someone trying to buy your fish). If they are alive and dont looked in bad shape I usually get them right off the truck, qt them and take it from there, I will admit though I did not QT my first two fish b/c they were the only two fish in the tank and like you I wanted to see a fish swim in my tank, its pretty cool though as you get your 1st fish *and many more after* you dump him in and its like hes stunned of all the room kinda like the fish thinking wow I made it back to the ocean again!!
