230 Tank Build

I do not know how i missed this. I'm going to upgrade when I move out of my current place (which will hopefully be the end of summer, end of year for sure) and I think I'm going to go in the 210-240g range (whichever size I can find in places that will ship or get in). This gives me an idea of what all I can do when that time arrives. Excellent looking so far.

I'm not sure whether I missed it, but is this going to be a reef or is it FOWLR?

Mandy - You likely missed it becuase I have not posted in a few weeks due to a pause in the project until I could clear out the basement workshop from the stand and tank.

My intention for the aquarium is to be of the Reef variety. However, i will stick to the hardiest of species of coral for the forseeable future, partly becuase of my inexerpeince with corals and alos becuase I am staying away from MH lighting, opting for the more negery efficient T-5 lighting. Hopefully in a year or two I'll make the jump to LED lighting. By then I should also be more comforatble with corals so onward and upward.

Regards

Oh Yeah, Rudy!!!!! That's an awesome spot for the tank! How cool to be able to see it from everywhere. Nice planning and please keep the pics coming. This is my entertainment.

Take care,
Tom

I really like how high you put it. Great for viewing, although short me would have to hire someone to clean it

Yeah - I wanted it high for several reasons. I like to view the tank, which I often do with a large magnifying glass, without having to bend over too much (I am 6'2"). Also, I have three small children, which I want to discourage from wrapping on the glass as well as dropping items into the tank. Not to mention keep the three of them safe.

As far as cleaning it, I'll invest i a good step stool or two. and them set-up temporary scaffolding between the two on the occasion requiring a thorough cleaning.

I am very pleased with the location and peninsula set-up. To me it is like having a second tank since I get to view it from both long sides. I use to get so frustrated not being able to see what was going on around the back side of my 55 set against a wall as usually has to be the case. I am a lucky SOB :grinyes:

That looks great...wow. I cannot wait to see this one finished!

Very Nice setup.Workmanship looks awesome.

Quick question. Do you have a heater and/or pump in with the live rock to keep it living(Correct me if its unnecessary)

Yes, Indeed. As a matter of fact I continue to be very surprised at how well the 50 gal drums maintain their temperature. Likely, in part, because of the LR and second becuase I have the drums wrapped in R19 insulation.

I am also running acouple RIOs from churning the H2O from mid level upward to the surface. Thanks for checking, just the same.

nice work. i love watching ppl's tanks come together since I know i am not that handy to do it myself lol.
