230 Tank Build

...since I know i am not that handy to do it myself lol.

I use to feel similarly. However, you, like me, would be pleasantly surprised at what you can do with the proper tools, plenty of space, and a truckload of paitence. Not to mention all the friendly helpful advice from the folks at AC. <plug>:perv:

Speaking of advice, what do people use for cementing their PVC? Regular old PVC sealent/cement, or is there a specific brand commonly used for aquarium plumbing?

yea but i doubt my boyfriend would want me to show him up with my handywork lol-it already gets on his nerves that i am the ms. fix-it around the place haha
but like i said

one day........one day.

Canopy Plans

Thanks to Cheech I have canopy plans. :headbang2: Cheech Rocks!

However, we are both looking for any last minute feedback regarding the design prior to it going into production, hopefully as soon as this coming weekend. :grinyes:

Our only area of particular concern is supporting the relatively thin middle (longitudinal) section.

Any/all thoughts, comments, concerns appreciated.

Thanks

lol.. Rudy, don't ask!!...

For the center brace, I'd use 2" strips going across. I think that'll be sufficient. My concern was finding t5 lighting to fit in that unit.

I'll post some measurments in a bit. . .

Bulkhead Fittings

Good Evening Everyone,

First and foremost, I would like to thank my darling and incredibly sexy wife for providing me the next installment of funding for my Tank Build. :lipssealedsmilie:

Tomorrow, I will be ordering my sump return bump (Blueline 70), Closed loop pump (Sequence Dart), Ocean's Motions 4-way, and 4 Ocean's Motions revolutions. :)

Time to get cracking on my project again after a 3 month delay. :headbang2:

First question, how should this bulkhead fitting be installed <see pic>? In other words, is the gasket placed on the inside bulkhead or outside bulkhead? And, the female end should be on the inside, right? Although this project is 90% DIY the area I know the least about is plumbing, which is likley obvious given my question. Please forgive my ignorance. :wall:

Cheers, Keith

the gasket should be inside the tank, and the nut part should be outside...
and for your question about PVC cement, yes regular cement will work.
if you dont like the smell, and all that purple primer , there is a product called "gorilla" PVC cement, which claims to be stronger than the pipe itself... it dries white, and has a much cleaner appearance.... i just used it to plumb my 225, but i wont get to fill it to check for leaks till tomorrow...if youd like an update on my opinions of the glue when im done, id be glad to give ya a review...so far, the nicest thing ive noticed about it, is that there is no smell, and its only one step, wich makes it much more easy to use..

i dont normally go into the marine diy area, but i should now! thats frickin awesome!!! (note-this is the first time ive seen this thread lol).
when i get my 20 gallon tall iam gunna make a stand.
