29 Gallon Aquarium, lots of questions and advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Because I have been told by a very well known killi breeder. Not some one who has had them for a week.

Cichlids and bettas are not peaceful tankmates. Also yes they see fish in the wild and that fish is usually trying to eat them. Why not try to set up an ideal environment foe these fish? Something that is stress free.

I just don't think recommending killi fish to a beginner wanting to set up a community tank is a very good idea. They ar very pretty fish but most have specialized needs and care.

Totally agree with Blue here. Cichlids should not be kept with bettas. Killies are not beginner fish. We want to promote this hobby, not set people up to fail.

They are better off in their own tank but I had a tank with least killies, corys, and a breeding aphyosemion poliaki trio. They did fine for 2+ years.

I would just stick to getting schooling fishes/what you have listed instead of getting the killies. Schooling fishes look better in a big tank.

i have talked to a breeder also (the one who sold me my killies) and he said they were fine wth peaceful small tankmates, but i see what your saying.

i dont set people up to fail.

i think you should do a tank around a betta like this.
6-harlequin rasboras
6-rummynose tetras
6-corys
1-male betta
and if you really like killis you could setup a simple 10 gallon planted tank without a heater for some ;)

Thanks again guys for the advice, I'm probably not going to do the killis, I shouldn't be spending so much money right now just on fish. And I really don't want to have to worry about 1 male getting beat up by the other. If I ever do decide to get them, I'll be sure to do A LOT of research first of course! :D

So for rams, can you do all males or all females with no problems?

All males is a definite no. A couple females could be ok but it depends on their personalities.

Okedokes, so then I am thinking just doing a tank of all female bettas and a school of 6 panda cories. Sorority tanks are fun :)
