300gal Reef.

This will definately be a thread to follow!

I would go for the inwall setup rather than the island.

If you do decide on the island, I'm figuring you won't keep the overflows where the site suggests now?

I tatally agree. I like the corner look so that you have 2 sides showing.

I like the In-Wall Peninsula style myself. ;) This is a friend of mines tank running SolaTubes. He owns a furniture store and this is in his store. OLD tank shots though, he really needs to get new ones because his corals are insane.. huge and super colorful just in the last 3-4 months... He gets in 3 months the same growth it takes me a year to get. If you look closely you will notice something missing.. powerheads. He only has his return and a OM4-Way on a closed loop and his flow is insane in his tank.

Ace Tell him I want to see some new tank shots. I am looking more toward a in wall setup. Perhaps with a small closet to use an equipment room. lol My wife is leaving in Jan to go find a house and I told her to remember a 8' tank is going somewhere.
I am def going with a OM but I was thinking an 8 way (or 2 4 ways). I figure I'll need somewhere around 6000gph turnover. That would give me way more than 20x tank volume. I was also thinking about somehow routing the return hoses under the sand bed so that I can get a couple close to the bottom to keep the ickies moving around.

Ah I can't wait to get out to AZ in feb/mar and get this thing a going.

Ace or someone else can you explain to me what an OM is and all these other return/equpiment lingo is i always feel like im reading physics when i see you all talk about this.

The OM is a little grey box you connect your return to. It has 4/8 outputs depending on the model. There is a Flap on the inside that turns and continually changes which outputs are being used thus creating a current!

ooohhh gotcha? what the difference between an mp40 and one of these then?

It is like a very expensive SCWD that actually works. It has a motor on it instead of relying on flow/gears to turn the different holes open and closed. A SCWD only does 2, and OM makes a Squirt that is a 2 way, but the most popular is the 4 way and 8 way. You get different versions depending on which holes you want to open in which order.

Here, just look at the site.

You use these on closed loop setups with an external pump, like my closed loop but with more holes for the return. MP40 is a powerhead, different than closed loop.

my my my gonna for sure subscribe to this looking forward to what you do with it

I have a 180 folr though I have been bitten by the sw bug my 230 and my 140 are screaming at me to turn them into sw

Can anyone suggest a good quality Protein skimmer that would be able to handle 300g.
Making an equipment list for the wife. When I told her i was guessing $10,000 to get the tank up and running she almost passed out ROFL..

I was really looking at this today I really like that set up. The end enclosure for the equipment is perfect. I wonder if glasscages can do that. I'm sure they can for the right price.
