55 Gallon with 2 fluval 205 canister filters? And about my Flowerhorn Blood parrot

2 Silver dollars 3 inches had them for about 1 year and a few months. They were like 1 inch when i bought them.
2 Blood red parrots 3 inches
1 Flowerhorn Blood parrot 3 inches
1 Yellow light Angelfish 1 inch
1 Golden Chinese algae eater 3 inches

I would say you are stocked, at the very least, once these fish are grown. Likely overstocked. And I would definitely not recommend adding Discus to this tank.

this is a parrot x flowerhorn. It is a double hybrid

u_u *sigh* It's frustrating, really. When i really thought I had like the perfect size tank for my fishies. Deadxero, i'll letcha know they all were in a 20 gallon before in a long time, and i would be coming here because of my stress fish problems and have been told many times thats overstocked (especially by RoanArt if I remember) >_> I agreed with them, but hesitated for a while until Ive gotten my flowerhorn parrot and thought I think its seriously about time to get a bigger, and more better natural tropical tank~~!!A 40 gallon sounds good, bought it and found out it's actually a 55 gallon;screamin with joy hahahahaha!!!! BUT I still had no clue that my poor fish actually needed to be with the big gigantic tanks. I thought I was with the big side tanks now this time, My Dad spent big bucks on this just for me. No joke. 55 gallon, fluval 205 filter canister, and lighting. A whooping 750 bucks total. Driftwood, sand 70 bucks. >_< I thanked my Dad extremely too much. I thought my boys would be happy now,Yay. BUT EVENTUALLY OVERSTOCKED?ACKKK!??!IM CHOKING MAN!

:sad::uhoh::shakehead::crazy::hypnotized:

Well anyway besides the mad, sad wall of text,
I have taken out my aggressive fish except my chinese algae eater:

Flowerhorn Blood red parrot x1
White-yellow Angelfish x1
One red blood parrot x1

Silver dollars x2
Blood red parrots x1
Chinese Algae eater x1

New Blood red parrot x1

I think thats fair enough room,no?I takened out one of my blood red parrot(i think he's another double hybrid) he/she too, was somewhat aggressive too, but far less worse than the flowerhorn red blood parrot, sharing somewhat similar personalities, the two didn't get along, but swam along while still avoiding themselves. He's been in my 20 gal tank for sometime, kinda miss him and his energeticness :P but if you gotta do what you gotta do, and I took him out. I had to do it for my regular red blood parrot as he has been tortured for sometime, causing him to stress out. I added one new Red blood parrot. Hoping he/she gets along. Thankfully he/she looks peaceful at the moment;he's probably the typical greedy red blood parrot personaility nonetheless , i think he's 3/4 peaceful. I hope he's not greedy & aggressive. It does make a little sense, aggressive and greediness does match up, just like all of us;it's amazing to see how fish too, have extraordinary minds just like us.

Well, there goes my analysis in meh head...

And heck, I'm not buying discus;though they are hella very tempting to go for;but nah!NEVAH i think they are hard to care for anyway, not so hardy fish, ill just be like ripping out 30 to 50 bucks if I buy one and then they die out easily.

All these fish shall be my final when i swap my chinese algae eater with a blue bristle nose pleco that grows 4 or 5 inches. Then I plan to grow real plants like java moss and fern. I plan to buy smaller rocks too to give more room rather than those two ornament chunks.

So what exactly resides in the 55 as of now? I have a pair of BP's in mine with a few loaches. I would like a FH someday when I have enough room for either my dream tank or 25 different 200gal+ set ups! Beautiful marking on your hybrid FH, btw. I have never seen that before.

I know that driftwood can be expensive... I shelled out roughly $70 for the two pieces I have. The tank, filter, lights, and stand shouldn't have been quite so much though... where did you get it from? The tank should have been roughly $100, $150 tops for stand, $75 for the canister, and lighting, depending on wattage, should have been $50-$100. Sorry, not trying to add insult to injury here, but if you paid $750 for a 55g tank, stand, a fluval 204, and lighting... whoever sold it to you took you for a bit more than they should have.

Discus aren't that hard to care for if you keep up with them, to what I've experienced thus far. I've only been keeping discus for 6 weeks or so thus far, but they seem to be doing well. (I know appearances can be deceiving... so I'm not going to go so far as to say they're doing excellent when they might not be internally) The biggest things with discus are their diet and water changes. My water change schedule is intense... every other day I do 50%, and generally (not always) between the 50% changes I do a 30% change. On the weekends, I supplement a 70% change in place of the 50% change. I end up changing 100-150 gallons of water a week on a 55g tank. (which when residuals are calculated for, I'm doing ~90-95% weekly change)

Oh, and to dive into discus will likely be more along the lines of $200 than $40-$50... as you really need to buy at least 5 to make them happy.

Just one more thing I noticed that I don't believe was mentioned... if I'm not mistaken, silver dollars are schooling fish. If you had 4-5 of them, they likely would not get quite as spooked with the lights, and would not be as likely to be bullied. I know that adding 2-3 silver dollars to your old (since I'm not positive on current) stocking list would not be a good idea, but perhaps you could supplement them in after removing one of your other fish? Not saying you have to or even that you necessarily should, just a suggestion. :)
