58g Planted w/overflow and sump

Exactly! To all that! lol They were sold as 1.5-2" (ha) super reds. At that price point I knew they wouldn't be "super red" (orange) but they are even less red (orange) than I had hoped...so far. Either way I figure I can grow these up, sell some/all and then be able to afford some good quality ones (trying to be positive!).

You have some nice ones downstairs?
There are some downstairs, I certainly think that they are more red... But they were put into a tank with others so need to be separated to breed true... There are calicos in there too I think, but I think they are all longfin too.

Wait and see what you end up with, you may see them color up, or they have offspring that show better color; just give them a chance and see what happens.

If I can see into the forest later I will see if I can get a picture, luckily the pencilfish in there are not gonna be able to eat any eggs or fry.

If you don't have any luck, if you yell we might be able to work out a few offspring for you.

So I just got home, looked over at my QT and said "Why is the tank SO clear!?" with concern cause something had to be wrong right? It's cause they licked it clean! lol Well rasped it actually but dang! I could barely get pictures through the crud yesterday. But the by product of that....

POOP! Massive amount of poop! I have not feed them yet so this is all algae poop.

They are even cleaning in inside of the sponge filter. No that's not a reflection lol

I kinda wish I had FTS from yesterday because if it wasn't for the bit of poop floating and the bubbles from the HOB this tank would be crystal clear! Just dropped some algae wafers in there but they have no interest yet.

All 6 seem to be doing well though!

I read that as sparkly poo... I must need rest :)

Rest? What's that? Is it 4:20am? That can't be right, but my unicorn friend here does have sparkly poo!

I've never had BNs this young before. Is it normal for them to be super active? They just don't stop moving, ever. I put the algae wafer and a piece of cucumber in (no zucchini on hand) and they have not touched either at all, I was surprised. I'll leave the cuc overnight and see if they munch it. They got a nice 10% WC tonight just from sucking out all that poo lol.

They may prefer algae and all that

I would let them be for a few days too.

In my experience from eggs to adulrood, they start to slow down and he more as they get older.

Figured as much, thanks! I'll run the lights on a timer to grow algae for them too. They didn't touch the cuc overnight BTW.

The biggest one has the best color so I am a little hopeful that they will get more color as they grow but pictures I have seen the babies are just as colorful as the adults, even at a smaller size than these guys. Either way I will love them! <3 And like I said for the price they are better than browns.

Mine also liked to graze on sponge prefilters, they may prefer the sponge & will have some food there. Do you have a pellet that falls to bits? Might be worth a try too. You know if they're pooping, they're eating, lol.
