Mine are coloring up a bit except the smallest one. They look best in subdued light so I am excited to see them in the 58g with the cycling light. 1 pair would probably be best but I wouldn't mind 2 pairs for back up.I saw "super red" BNs a far but good shop the other day. They look like yours, maybe 1.5", so maybe they just take a long while to color up. Too bad about the sex ratio...but do you really want more than 1 pair?
I can just imagine the little guys going *pong* I am still open to glass tops, just haven't made the trip to get them yet. There is only about 1/2" of open space till the rim in this tank and it is consistent since it's an overflow. In the past I've always had to lower the water level to get them to lay eggs (or not top off or WC every week) so I think if I want them to reproduce successfully I will have to intervene.Inverts...
I really liked my purple & pink mystery snails but I kept them in a rimless 40g long & they'd often climb out & fall to the wood floor. They made a ping pong ball-like thunk noise & I almost always heard it to rescue them. 1 was out almost a day I think, but survived. The egg masses got tiresome after a few.
Yup, that's what they do when they are happiest. I'm ok with that though.Filter shrimp look cool!! But I also think they just sit in 1 spot & might get boring after a while.
No, no one does. They were everywhere when I wasn't able to keep them, them and the small rainbows like forktails and celebes, all but gone now that I have room for them and still just as expensive lol.Rabbit snails, again look cool & are expensive...Does Rachel still sell them? I know less of them than filter shrimp.
To each their own. I love frogs so, appealing.Dwarf frogs, meh, I don't see the appeal. & having to hand feed the little buggers...I'd vote no!

Breeding is not a goal of mine and they don't breed readily. But they are probably on the chopping block anyway.Micro crabs...kinda cute...aren't they self cloning & make a ton of the little things...Me & heavy breeders, not so much.
lol I'm confused too! The RCS are in the plan for now unless I add fish, then I would give them their own breeding tank. They are doing good. Breeding, slowly though. Constant saddles but few berried. Literally just looked over at the tank now though and there is a small berried female front and center! The only caridina I could possibly try and have actually seen for sale are tigers (reg, super, red, tangerine), malawa and babaulti. And with their price tag I would want to put them into a breeding situation, at least at first. I'd say babaulti would be tops on that list because I've kept them before but it was yrs ago when I had shrimp issues so I'd like to see how they do now. There are actually some other shrimp I've only seen profiles for that I'd love to try though. But that's for when I hit the lottery. What about the expensive shrimpies (caridinas)? I know I don't have the $$$ for them & they must be a bit difficult since I don't see them much anymore...& then there's your water...Neo blue shrimp are pretty...are your RCS still doing well...finally after the other tank's issue? Are they in this latest version of this tank? I've gotten confused...

I'm always on the lookout for other nerite types, love em! Talk about a high price tag and unbreedable though.Nerites, so many cool looking kinds! I know you have some...how're they doing?

Tank is not happening. They would have liked a bigger tank with new options of fish (and the colors and rockwork for the Mbuna was my father's favorite setup) but the house is just too old and broken for such a big tank. My friend's father even offered me his 150g with stand, top, sand, rocks etc for $200.BTW, since we're catching up on all you tanks, what did your parents say re Africans or goldfish in possible 135g? Uncle's furniture etc?

I had no idea paprika was fish approved! ThanksIf you want to try getting the SRs to color up, try feeding red food.. say red pepper. If you make your own adding paprika will help out.
Yeah, I only have 6 caves right now, 1 each but figured that would be fine cause they were still young. Apparently they had other plans. Working on small caves now.The fighting will likely mean they need more caves.. I am pretty sure mine have bred before getting significant bristles
Absolutely. I would only buy captive bred ones so that helps with the parasite issue too.If you go with rabbit/tylo snails, be sure to QT well and watch for leeches and/or other parasites... But if you can get them in good condition I believe they are easy to breed and should be easy to sell.
Thanks! I wouldn't want to mix Neos (keeping the RCS for now) and yeah the Malawa are kinda blah IMO.If you want to go with shrimp, yell what you want and I will see what I can find.. I know I can spare some Malawa shrimp if you want something small and can't see. And I know I could likely spare a bunch of red rili shrimp.. I think there are blue dream too but no idea of their number.
Otherwise I will be looking untidy at a picnic at Hand Aquatics next month, and at the international shrimp competition in Chicago in November; so at be able to find a source or 2 for you.
Ok, Mr.Igoeverywhere. Do you ever seen things like rabbit snails, nerites (other than zebra or olive), forktail rainbow, celebes rainbow etc., filter feeding shrimp, thai crabs etc at these events/clubs? I was also looking for aplocheilichthys macrophthalmus (think it's been changed to poropanchax) too but I think my only chance might be local clubs. And it's hard to tell apart from the more common normani but it's water requirements are totally different. Absolutely not expecting you to look for me, just getting a read on the event/club scene. Because when I used to go to these things I never found what I was looking for.
Pictures coming later!
