65 Gallon Build (First Tank)

I had lots of trouble with my CSS being "twitchy". I have mine as a HOB but it did the same thing as yours one day and overflowed and almost set my house on fire when it shorted the surge protector mounted to the back of my tank stand. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144590
Since then I have it set up to drain into a 5-gallon bucket, but it for some reason seems to be very stable now. For a long time though the level seemed to change for no reason.

Alright heres the sump: Split into 3 sections skimmer/return/fuge

Still have to add my GFO to the Reactor just have it running now to have some more water flowing into the fuge.

And then the tank itself..

The way it is arranged is fine, if not fairly optimal, as the chamber's water level doesn't change. That at least eliminates changes in back pressure. Again, I've just found them to be finicky. I maintained several models at a previous LFS job--they all either wouldn't maintain enough of a water level to produce skimmate or overflowed. All except for one, that is, which was a CSS 65. Setups for the skimmer were identical, too.

Hey, if you can afford your ATI fixture, Deltec should be no problem, lol. I even found my used Deltec APF600's price a little hard to swallow.

Yeah, I was told to go with a better skimmer but when things get donated, and moneys a little tight lol you learn to deal with it. So hopefully this skimmer works for for a while till I can get one of the higher end skimmers. I love the quick responses here almost like a live chat.

The ATI fixture wasn't to bad of a price to swallow helps out with an atheltic scholarship so all your money doesn't get sucked down the the school board!

I've got a new 20 long I'm going to be putting baffles in for my sump. Yours looks nice.

aha thanks, that was prob the hardest part of this whole tank.. putting those baffles in, I never want to do that again

I think I'll take the measurements to a glass shop and have them cut for fit. Then just silicon them in place.

Yeah, I didnt cut my own glass got it cut as well, but siliconing them in place was the challenge without them falling over or trying to get silicon to the other side of the baffle where there is an inch of room. Just make sure you get some reef safe silicon none of that anti mildew stuff

Got a quick question for anybody who's dealt with Mantis Shrimp before, found a little guy in one of my rocks, managed to get him out hes currently in the sump, I kind of like him though. Was wondering would I be able to keep him in my refuge? Its got a sand bed some smaller pieces of live rock and a ball of chateo
