75 gallon Planted Office Tank Journal

Geek I see your algae is starting to bloom. Get juvenile bristlenose and they will eat a lot man. Trust me, a 75 gallon, get like 5 juvies.

what is the most fish you think I can safely add at once?

I am about to get 4 apistos, plus I have snails coming. I wonder if snails and plecos makes sense? To save shipping I could get plecos at same time as apisto, but that is alot of fish to add at once??

Having a hard time between ordering Apistos, pair each of two types.

Or getting Rainbows. Apistos are smarter and probably more interesting, but rainbows are nice too, and I could pack in more of them. I wish polls could be done inside an existing thread, so I could guage which would win the poopular vote. Probably am going to order tonight, so maybe let me know your thoughts.

FTS Day 8

Nothing else really going on, I guess I'll cool it on the pics for today. Snail pictures tomorrow.

Just paid for fish with online vendor. They will ship on Mon and be here on Tuesday.

My local lady really dropped the ball. I would have spent alot of money with her, so I dont really know what the issue was. I asked her politely several times just to tell me one way or the other is she wanted the business, and she couldnt even give me a "no thank you", or "I dont have the time right now, maybe try me for you next order". I was exceedingly polite when I saw her in person, wrote emails, and phone calls. She has a very nice business here in Maine, and otherwise is a very nice person. I can't really figure it out, other than she was just too busy. :mad2:

Anyway, I just sent http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/ some money, so i should have pics of nice healthy fish on Tues. If that transaction works out, I will be buying more from them. Emails answered within 24 hours (or less), and they have a nice large selection which is updated monthly via an emailed excel spreadsheet. I hope it goes smoothly. :woot:

Here is what I got to start:

Pair Apistogramma cacatuoides,"Double Red",1.25"
Pair Apistogramma nijsseni,1.25"+

Please keep us informed as to how it goes with "The Wet Spot" They are about a 3 1/2 hour drive from me. It'd be about the same for shipping as it would be to drive down there. I could be up for a road trip to a good store.
TIA

Geek, is your tank cycled? If so, I don't see a problem adding bristlenose along with other fish. Make sure you get juveniles though. Adult bristlenose are almost worthless when it comes to algae intake. Once a male reaches old age, they are just looking to mate and thats about it. Juvenile bristlenose are work horses and will strip a tank of algae in no time. I would say get like 5 juveniles, let them breed, and in a few years sell them as breeding pairs. I have 5 babies in my high tech tank, and i NEVER see them not eating. They are gods of algae cleaning.

if you can keep your tank above 6.5 mostly that's not too bad for the nerites. unfortunately there are no nerites that do real well in low ph afaik. they're salt water snails so accustomed to a higher tds/ph, but obviously can do well in fresh.
