75 gallon Planted Office Tank Journal

yup those are roots don't worry about it much, it happens.

I am hoping the roots will reach down into the substate and produce more shoots, or is cutting and replanting the tops the only way to expand the stem populations? I dont really like how it looks when you chop the tops off, and then new shoots come out the sides of the base that remains. They get all top heavy looking in the shape of a "Y". But at the same time, this gives you a new plant, when you stick the chopped off top into the soil. I have read that if you cotinue to trim, the plant will bish out more and more until it looks good. Does anyone have a few tips or an link that explain how to trim, at what length, etc so it looks nice and natural and full, or am I making this all harder than it really is?

Ahh tank looks good! Congrats on the sword flower stalk, looking forward to pics of the flower(s).

I believe the plant behind the sword flower in the link you posted is Lawn Marsh Pennywort aka Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides. It could also be Brazilian Pennywort aka Hydrocotyle leucocephala. I did see mention of Pennywort in your color-coded layout. Is this the lilypad-looking plant? Perhaps Whorled Marsh Pennywort aka Hydrocotyle verticillata? It's quite fetching!

I have Lawn Marsh Pennywort in my tanks and enjoy the height and brightness it gives. It will throw out roots (like any stem plant) but these are thin/fine and don't seem to try to root into the substrate... probably because this plant likes to also grow floating.

:clap::clap::clap:
You've come quite a ways, and I'm very happy for your success! The nerites are beautiful. Please do watch to see if they climb out of your tank... they'll injure themselves if/when they fall.

no thay wont produce new plant you will have to trim it to to get new plants and i under stand you not liking how it looks but it does get better over time. when i trim i try to cut bellow where the eye normally see then let the shoots grow up. all tanks go through times where thay don't looks so good don't worry about it.

Was AC down all day yesterday, or was that just me? :cry:

Plants look healthy dude. No it was definitely down all day. Keep us posted with growth. I used my filter as a reference point to show growth in 1 week. I usually get like 2 inches a week in my high tech tank. I get like 1mm growth in my 125 because there isnt enough light lol.

I am about to order fish, so I hope I get a few more inches of growth to provide some cover. I think I actully might wait.... Thanks for the compliment. :y220e:

WORMS

Here is something interesting, a co-worked brought in some earth worms he was growing, some small some big. I managed to get a worm out, but it was prerry big. I thought I would give it a try as a live treat.

Krib was curious, took one bite, but for the most part was more scared of the worm than anything.

Cherry barbs didnt care about it at all. I ended up pulling worm out of tank after five mins and putting back in breeding bottle.

A failure, but I'm not sure if it was because the worm was too big, or because they dont like worm.

Geek I see your algae is starting to bloom. Get juvenile bristlenose and they will eat a lot man. Trust me, a 75 gallon, get like 5 juvies.
