75 gallon Planted Office Tank Journal

Since I am not having alot of luck getting the balance correct with my co2, lights, and PPS-PRO, I am going to set-aside my liquid PPS fertilizer stock, and switch to EI Method for two weeks and see if anything changes.

Since i am only around my tank 5 days a week, I have modified the normal every other day method to the following, which I think should work fine, but if you see something crazy with this plan, then let me know.

I am still only going to run only 2 out of my 3 lights.

Fe showed up today from GLA.

ya those cheaper regulators have needle valve issues, exactly what happening to you. what i would do is replace it with an Ideal or swagelok metering valve thay are rock solid. also replacing them are pretty easy, just have to find the right size needle valve/metering valve.

edit: also talk to Orlando at Greenleaf he might be able to sell you one or SUMO, might be able to too. also i know Rex has them for sale on his site.

If I have any more issues I am going to order something from Rex. He is one of the only vendors that is spoken highly of that I have not yet ordered from, so I will give it a try. Thanks!

Iron Chelate, in case you've never seen it before.

FTS Day 20.

My tank was looking very sad, so even though I did a water change on Friday Morning (3 days ago), I felt that I should try and whack back the algae for the new plants and fish that arrive tomorrow. Did a very solid 50% water change. Tank looks better already! Those Otos are going to have their work cut out for them, for sure.

If you dont know what Melanotaenia parva looks like, here is an image found at this link, which also lists the basic info.

I have 6 of those coming, and you dont really read too much about that rainbow.

And here is probably the most famous of the rainbows, the Boesemani Rainbow, image found at this link with info. I have 6 of those coming too.

I was a little disappointed with the the way my Turquoise rainbows looked, so I decided to google "Turquoise+rainbow+drab" today, and what do you know? Several posts at several differnt sites saying how these look drab as juveniles, but how they color up real nice when they get full size! Good, I thought I was stuck with some plain looking fish.

Here is what they should look like at some future date, found at this link.

I should have a nice little rainbow tank here starting tomorrow. :)

Here are my algae eating little buddies, cute and good workers! Image found at this site.

Fish just arrived. It was little bit of a freak out moment because the nice USPS lady told me my package was "leaking". She had put the box inside a plastic bag to prevent damage to the rest of the mail.

Co-workers were crowded around and even the USPS lady stayed to see it opened once she heard there were fish inside. Luckily, it was only a small leak that looked much worse then it was, and all 3 bags still contained enough water to keep the fish alive. As far as I can tell, all fish are alive. (I am still floating the bags).

Here is the box.

I guess these are the risks with shipping live, and wet, fish across the country literally (from Portland OR to Portland ME). If this had not been Express shipping, all water would have drained from the leaking bag, so there is another reason to pay for overnight shipping.

So, in the end I think it was just a simple drip drip drip, and not because it was packaged shodily. The box setup was identical to the last shipment, which had no leaks.

:hi:

Fish are in. Only 1 DOA, it was an Oto, which we all know are notoriously sensative. 1/2 the Otos are active and munching on Alage, or maybe just hanging on with their mouth, and the other 1/2 are just hanging on and moving less. I hope that that remaining 9 stay alive to clean all my algae.

Here are some quick shots I just took:

$75.00 started this journey, got to have about $1,500.00 into it now. Co-workers like it better than I do!
