75 gallon Planted Office Tank Journal

oh btw geek, you should get some ritala stem plants in there. I have huge bunches of it in my tank, and it really fills in areas nicely with reds and greens. By far one of my top 5 favorite plants. Nice thing about stem plants are you can trim and replant the trimmings to create a new plant. I am thinking about selling some of my stems from now on. Both my planted tanks are full of it, so I might start selling. If you look at my picture under my name, the bunch directly in the center of the tank is a rotala. It has doubled in width now so it looks even better. I probably have about 30 stems to create a bush like feel and that is why it looks so good. There is a guy in the classifieds that is selling rotala stems. His name was like jmm197

Yeah, i've been thinking I need a few more types of stems, and I want to get a chunk of rotala magenta. Like I said, I dont know if I have anything you want, but we should trade bro. I will also check out the seller you mentioned.

Just ordered more fish. When these come in, my tank will be fully stocked, so dont expect any more fish for a long time. More plants will come though!

Here is what I finally decided on:

10 x Otocinclus arnoldi "Common Otocinclus" WILD Colombia
6 x Parva Rainbow
6 x Boesemani Rainbow

Fish will ship from "The Wet Spot" on Monday, be here Tuesday.

Rainbow eating a live earth worm. I fed 3 that day, and the fish went nuts for them. This time around I was smart and used smaller worms.

I just fed the fish two live ants I found crawling around on the office floor. (no photo)

I just purchased some stems from another AC member, so new plants coming next week along with new fish. First time I have bought something through the classifieds. :thm: Some real pretty stems! I am going to move some of the smaller plants around, probably pack them in on the far left midground, to open up space on the far right. The tank is still looking too dark, I am thinking because some much of the Eco complete is still visible (plants need to grow in). I saw the first signs that the Dwarf Hairgrass is sending out new sprouts to spread. Need about another 1,000 blades before I have actual foreground cover, but it's a start. The remaining algae on the plant leaves is obviously also making the tank look dark overall. Co-workers are commenting that the tank look better today, so I guess I am winning the algae battle, but I am not out of the woods yet. I really was under the dillusion that algae would not get me, LOL.

I'll tell you what, I think my tank is coming along fine, but it is nowhere near the beautiful tank I see so many members here have. I look at some tanks and the tank just "jumps" off the screen. I look at mine, and you're look at mine now, and I can tell you that is does NOT pop or jump off the screen. :irked: Yeah, you're thining the same thing! I'll keep working on it till it does though.

Regarding my co2 needle valve, I am not happy about it. It works fine for a week, and then it will start dispensing co2 slower/faster. I dont know if its humidity, room temperature, or it's just a POS. I really dont want to spend more money on something that should work fine for another 10 years. But I also cant have this think bouncing around all over the place. I think I am going to break down the tubing connection to regulator to bubble counter, and from there to the reactor, shorten the lengths of tubing involved and see if that helps.

Anyone else reading this ever have issues with the co2 flow? Mine was perfect for like 3 weeks, then it dropped down, so I cranked it a bit, and then it was fine for a say, and then I had to drop it down again. (Yes, I know that no one else played with it, I have it marked where I callibrated it.) I dont want to keep playing that game.

Hmmmm. Long post, sorry about that. Peace.

So I was just playing with aqadvisor.com, and with all the new fish coming in, I am going to be in trouble. So I think I am going to move most of the cherry barbs back to my Kids tank. A little sad, but I need to make room for the rainbows which I what I wanted to have in the tank to begin with. Leaving every thing in the tank I am at something crazy like 130% capacity. Even removing all of the cherry barbs, I am still at 113%, which should be fine considering so many of my fish are very small.

Beautiful tank!!! LOVE it! Love the krib in the picture above, too... I always enjoyed the pair I used to have.
Nice work!!!

Azoo Co2 Pressure Regulator (the $80.00 from Dr. Fosters).

ya those cheaper regulators have needle valve issues, exactly what happening to you. what i would do is replace it with an Ideal or swagelok metering valve thay are rock solid. also replacing them are pretty easy, just have to find the right size needle valve/metering valve.

edit: also talk to Orlando at Greaenleaf he might be able to sell you one or SUMO, might be able to too. also i know Rex has them for sale on his site.
