75 gallon Planted Office Tank Journal

Fish arriving via mail. Purchased from Grey at The Wet Spot over email. No website order, no phone calls, no messing around. Easy as pie.

Fish are small (as expected). If Krib is nasty to them, she is coming out.

Fish are in. Rainbows look good and happy. The apistos are tiny! The female looks ok, but the male does not look happy or healthy. He looked kind of still and helpless in the bag too. Hope he makes it.

Two of the rainbows are schooling togeather, and the other 4 are togeather. Odd they are not schooling as a group of 6.

FTS Day 15

You guys are being quiet...

FTS and random shot. New Apisto are way too small to photograph yet, and rainbows swim too fast for my camera (no flash).

I am also thinking about getting SAE, but they will get too big at some point and have to come out. I still think the otos are a good idea...but SAE will eat more. We'll see.

I like your tank. I have read all of your threads (and replies) and have learned from them. I am about 2 months into a 55 gallon tank and so far everything is going good. I have a DYCO2 but am looking into a more suitable pressurized set up. Thanks for the trip!

Looking good. I see lots of new growth. Give the new fish a few days to recover from the trials and tribulations of being shipped.

Male and female apistos are swimming around more, and I think they will make it. The Male looks much better than when I first put him in the tank. :grinno:

Now that the rainbows are in swimming around in the top of water, my curvicep has renewed confidence. The Krib is still nasty to the curvicep, but at least she swims around now.

Algae has definately slowed. Now I just need to clean up whats already in tank. Combination of manual removal (maybe), and SAE order for next week.

All and all, things are looking up.

My big mistake with algae was running the lights (all 3) basically since I got the tank. Since there were not plants in for first two weeks, what did I really think was going to happen? Yes, I am an idiot, so learn from my mistakes people! :wall:

There are just not enough plants packed in here for my tastes. I think we'll need to fix that!

Hey geek. my 125 is doing much better now. Even with terribly low light and no co2, my plants have perked up. I am going down to Chicago tonight to pick up 4 Cobalt Blue Discus. I have 2 discus already, but they are a random checkboard, and I wanted to get some brilliant colored discus. I am excited to get some ridiculously good looking discus finally. Your tank is looking good. Pretty quick here you'll have to start doing trims. Trimming is a pain in the butt to me. I have to trim once a week in my high tech tank. Take your time with it, make sure everything is symmetrical. It is like a hair cut, and if you gouge up a plant, it will show. Tank is looking great though, keep up with the pictures.

oh btw geek, you should get some ritala stem plants in there. I have huge bunches of it in my tank, and it really fills in areas nicely with reds and greens. By far one of my top 5 favorite plants. Nice thing about stem plants are you can trim and replant the trimmings to create a new plant. I am thinking about selling some of my stems from now on. Both my planted tanks are full of it, so I might start selling. If you look at my picture under my name, the bunch directly in the center of the tank is a rotala. It has doubled in width now so it looks even better. I probably have about 30 stems to create a bush like feel and that is why it looks so good. There is a guy in the classifieds that is selling rotala stems. His name was like jmm197

I dont mind trimming too much, but then again, I've never had this many plants, or this many types of plants! For now, I am going to let the stems grow up so and float on surface to create some shade areas, unless the tank becomes too dark.

Happy to hear about the tank being in better shape.

Dude, we need to trade some plants. Seriously, when my tank starts spitting off tons of stems, instead of tossing them, we should mail each other clippings. You get new plants, I get new plants, for the cost of a little postage. Let me know what you think.
