AAHHHH !!! Blue Rams Breeding AGAIN !!

Well Bawlsy....when I get back from NC.....come on over and pick up some rams !! :D



I have no idea what my GH and KH readings are..I have never checked. Anyone want to give a guess as to what it could be...seeing as how I am breeding and raising german blue rams in a PH of 7.8-8.0 and hardness of 80ppm ?

I don't mess with my PH at all...don't add anything because I don't want to get into that mess with "up" and "down" chems and trying to keep it stable. The only thing I do with my water is add conditioner/stress coat and 1/2 teasp of aquarium salt per gallon and let it sit for a few days before I use it...most of the time...with all my tanks I sometimes have to use it when it's only set long enough to get to room temp. I have one 10 gallon of change water with a heater in it set at 80F, which I use for the ram tanks.

When I got the first yellow lab, he attacked everything.
He went after the corys and tore up their fins and tails!
After getting two more female yellow labs, none of them bother the corys.

I just got rid of my CAE and substituted a trio of oto cats.
I thought they were going to get picked on, as the yellow labs were nipping at the plastic bag initially, but when I released the oto's they were left alone.

Yes, the tank is overstocked as a lot of people have been reminding me.
I'm planning to get a 30G - 35G tank soon and move the Mbunas soon!

you really need to stop playing that cheesy porno music around your fish. First the cories, now the rams. Who knows who will be next!
 
I'm a bit late sorry, just wanted to say :thm:

I was v. interested in your thread cos I've got a beautiful pair of German rams who are very healthy in my p.h 8, they display constantly but I doubt I'd see any eggs, never mind fry. I guess you've had success because of an unusually low g.h. for your relatively high p.h.

80ppm is soft water, mine is around 320 which is considered hard. It's the soft water that means your eggs can hatch despite having an alkaline p.h.

I'm jealous ;)
 
Thanks for that info D ! I was wondering what it was that was such a help here. I had read a site that said hard water makes it very difficult for the eggs to hatch...if you manage to get any...and that fungus can be a problem as well.

I did have some of the eggs get white and fuzzy, but I was careful to pick them off with a toothpick and syphon them out to get them away from the good eggs. I think that probably helped alot to keep them viable.

I'll definitly have to get a gh and kh test kit...I am curious to see what those readings are. My water comes from a local aquafer....deep ground water...I don't know what that has to do with anything....but I guess I have nothing to complain about in that department...lol....
