AAHHHH !!! Blue Rams Breeding AGAIN !!

Well, the first time I didn't because I had no idea they had spawned. One morning I was looking in the tank and saw a bunch of fry that had to be about 2-3 weeks old !! I have no idea where they were hiding all that time, but I had to get to work so had no time to get them out...by the time I came home they were all gone. I don't know if the gouramis ate them...or the parents.

They spawned again only 2 days later and that bunch of eggs I removed. They were stuck to a smooth rock I had in the tank so it was easy to get them out of there. I put them in a quarenteen tank I have below the 29...booted out some danios that were in there just to keep the tank cycled. (put them in my female betta tank)

I now have that 15 and a 10 full of ram babies. I figure I must have about 75 or so and they're looking pretty good. About 7-8 weeks old right now. When I get home from NC...which is where I am now...I'm going to start advertising them in a local paper here I think.....see if I get any local interest. I know some folks at a few of the LFSs here that are interested in purchasing some. I do hope they do well during my absence...I have a friend taking care of my tanks while I'm gone...I'm sure they'll be fine..
 
Well, I'm back from my trip to NC...and I have MORE baby rams in the 29 !! :thud:

LOL ! I knew before I left that mom and dad were getting ready to "Do it again" so it's not a complete surprise...but I still have two tanks full of babies from the LAST encounter !

If anyone here lives near CT and wants some german blue rams....do let me know, they are about ready to go.

As far as the new little ones, I think I'll leave them in the 29...if they survive, fine...if not...oh well...Dad is being very good about protecting them, even keeping mom away...but not sure how much the poor gouramis that are in that tank can put up with...mom and dad are VERY good parents !

oh my gosh! thats insane...are you sure you have rams and not guppies?

if you were closer to me, i'd definitely buy a pair from you.
 
LOL....sometimes I wonder if they aren't a guppy hybrid....

Actually...the batch they bred while I was away...got eaten because I didn't have another tank to put them in so I left them in with mom and pop. Within a half hour of turning the lights on in the tank....they were all gone..lol..amazing how fast they go as soon as they show thier little faces !! I had the lights off in the tank while I was away and I think they were less noticable to the other fish. Oh well, I still have my hands full with two tanks full of babys..so, I"m not feeling too awful bad about it.

Emg it is good to hear that the rams are cooperating now!!! My rams would spawn when they were in the 15 gallon but once i moved them to the 55 gallon they stopped. I wonder whats up.......
 
Maybe with all that free space to swim around, they're enjoying themselves too much to be 'tied down' with a family right now...lol...

Seriously...I don't know why that would happen LB....could there be another fish in the tank that is upsetting them....just a thought...do you have corys? I have read that corys aren't a good tank mate for rams, but I don't have any in with mine, so I can't say from experience whether that's true or not....or, just what "annoying" a ram means...lol.

Or....is that the 55 you have been writing about ? Could be they'll settle down when you get that tank fixed up the way you want it...but really, I have no idea LB...just make sure you have a big tank all ready for the babies when they do get back into the swing of things....lol....it's about time for me to thin out the herd here...I may take some of the little ones to the LFS this weekend to make some room in those fry tanks for growth. (I still don't know exactly how many I have...somewhere between 70 and 90 or so :huh: )
 
All the fish from the 15 went into the 55. Yes it is the tank featured in my 55 gallon thread. I do have 1 cory, but that didnt stop them before. There were several times that i thought that they were going to spawn but they never did. Maybe I need to get my plants in the aquaria so they can have some privacy!!!
