Ace25's 75G Build Thread

I forgot the name of the place that built the tank for me. I know it starts with an L and is out of Los Angeles.. I want to say Lemos but I know that isn't correct. I don't know why but I always forget the name of the company. I had just asked my LFS for a custom tank and they picked the MFG they like.

PVC, it is 1-1/2" PVC for the drain, and 3/4" pvc for the returns and closed loop.

Thanks Ace, I'm still looking for that overflow box and found a guy locally who says he can drill the glass for $10.00 a hole. Now to find the bulkhead fittings and skimmer and overflow basket. Greg

Lemar is the MFG.. just remembered. Any MFG should be able to order you a custom overflow box to your liking. It is something that has to be molded to shape so it isn't something any LFS can make for you. $10 a hole is a awesome deal. I think I paid something like $50/hole on my tank.

Bulkhead fittings should be able to be found at a LFS or Marinedepot. One suggestion, get the heavy duty bulkheads from MarineDepot, they are great, BUT you need to have the holes drilled a little bigger to accomodate for them. On MD they say what size hole you need, so as long as you get the hole drilled to the proper size, those are the best bulkheads I have come across. A little pricey, but worth the peace of mind.

I use a SCWD on my return line so the left and the right side returns alternate. I had to replace my idea of using loc-line parts on the return and had to put on penductors to get enough flow for my liking with the SCWD.

On the closed loop I removed the SCWD I had for that because it was too restricting, and too loud. I could only place the SCWD on the closed loop just above the pump, and that much pressure made the SCWD knock really loudly due to too much pressure/flow. So I just T'd off the closed loop line in place of the SCWD.

Ace, by chance do you have a photo of what you did? I like the idea so I can get the tank closer to the wall. Did you use the double slip fittings?

This first pic isn't quite correct. This was my first attempt, but I ended up moving the SCWD up to the top of the tank and it now sits just below the overflow bulkhead. I used Slip-Slip bulkheads on all but the center hole and overflow. The closed loop intake and overflow are both FPT-Slip so I can unscrew the strainer on both of them to clean if/when needed.

Here you go, color coded pictures to show how the lines work.

Red=Return Line
Blue=Overflow drain line
Green=Closed Loop Intake
Yellow=Closed Loop Return

And hard to really see, but behind the sump is the closed loop pump, you can see where it T's off and then goes out the back to each side of the floating reef.

Thanks Ace. I swiped your photos for later reference. I think I read somewhere where you changed out your closed loop pump, what did you get? I've got a Rio 3100 for my sump.

Well, I better log into Marine Depot and start shopping. I may have more questions but since you are having good luck with your tank, I'll try to follow your suit! Thanks for the help!!
