Aggro Yo Yo Loach.

I have a heavily planted 29 gl ( Pressurized Co2, 65w 6.7k and 65w 10k, seachem ferts ). I've had a Dwarf Chain Loach , a Golden Zebra Loach , a Zebra Loach and a Yo Yo Loach all living harmoniously in the tank for about 3.5 years.

Now that the Yo Yo is pushing 2.5 inches ( twice the size of the golden and the chain ) he has turned fairly aggressive towards the other loaches, particularly the Zebra. I don't like to see fish being constantly chased after. I am playing with the idea of taking him back to the LFS. Why would he just up and start harassing others? Is this common for Yo Yo's ? if i lose him would the same thing happen again with the Zebra pickin on the other two eventually?

Botia & Sinibotia need to be in groups of their own kind for any hope at "harmony". They are boistrous, nippy, and much fun but can become aggresive as older fish. Bear in mind, that at 2 1/2" it still has a ways to grow. I'd suggest taking back both zebras and the yoyo and adding a few more dwarf chains. I know it's tough to get rid of fish, but...
 
well loaches of there own kind run in packs, you have single loach and thats not the way they live. all your loach do not have family :( you needed to have 4 or five of each kind to acually bond . and a bigger aquarium .
 
Wow! It's a tough decision returning the others when you become strongly attached to them.:cry: A 29g though should be fine for the sids. Why not buy more tanks from Craiglist so you can keep the rest of the loaches?:naughty:
 
Yeah i didnt know much about them all before i got them. The yoyo i think would get to big. He's already kind of like a bull in a china shop, uprooting plants. I got the four because i thought they would all hang out together and cruise around scavenging. and for 3 1/2 years that is totally what they've done.

If i get rid of one..... I'm probably going to get rid of all of them. It is a shame though, because they are definitely fun to watch and are easily the most active fish in the tank. Add to that, their uncertain fate at the fish store. And the fact that those little buggers are not cheap ( my store will take them but with no compensation ), these guys are fat and happy and now i may be sending them to their doom.

I may go with a small colony of shrimp, but am unsure if my Honey gourami would eat them. I like the red bees ( i think thats what they're called ).
 
Do you have space in your house for more tanks though? You can try Craiglist for bargains. A 29g should be able to support 8-10 sids.

Sorry to hear that. I'd agree with Lupin that if you have the time, space, and means a new tank wouldn't be a bad thing. Before you take them in for no compensation you might want to list them on Aquabid or the classifieds here. They aren't cheap and you'd at least get something. I do know there are users here that have multiple tanks, love loaches, and would pay you a fair price. ;)
 
I would love to have another tank, but my track record of moving around (10 moves in three different states the past 12 yrs ) the 29 is about as much as I'm willing to lug around. And the fact i really dont have the space here for another tank.

I would like to see them go to a good home. I don't really know how to ship fish though. I will have to look into all of that. Maybe some one would trade for some shrimp.
 
Make a thread about selling the fish in Classified Ads section of this forum and proceed to www.loaches.com. Join that forum and make a similar thread. Many loachaholics there will gladly take your fish.:) I wish I could if I live near your area but as I live in Asia, oh well.:(

No need to go to www.loaches.com. I'm sure someone here would take them in. lol
