Agricultural fair = torture for fish

Seems like some countries are on the right track.

None of my friends can understand why I spend the money I do on tanks and filters. I try to explain that a fish tank is like a small ecosystem, and that I want the best for them. I made the decision to buy them, so it is my responsibility to make sure they have a quality life.

You only need 1500 signatures to petition your city council to put some sort of legislation on the ballot... just saying...

I won a hermit crab at a fair, and actually took care of it as best as I could. Of course, I was only 9 or something, so it didn't end well, but I tried.

Feeder fish are illegal, fish as prizes are illegal as well. Genetically modified fish are also banned.

Not sure about tank size though...maybe. I know Rome has banned goldfish bowls :)
Why dont we do this in the states? well, except for the feeder fish :P the big guys gotta eat!

My piranhas definably didn't need live fish to eat. Even fish that prefer live fish can usually be tricked by placing a pump in the tank to move the dead fish around in the water current. That's how we got a heron who wouldn't eat anything besides live fish to eat dead ones.

Try to keep a fish from the genus Acestorynchus without feeding it smaller live fish and let us all know how it turns out for the fish. It turns my stomach to see people try to use the govt. to impose their feelings on others. If the Goldfish game at the fair offends you, walk away.

Well....they are money makers for the carni's and fairs. Probably pay all of $10 for fish. Plop down a dollar bill and let a little kid throw a ping pong ball into one of the bowls. Classic and ageless carni game. And the look on the little ones face when they win one is priceless.

Now we as hobbyists of course know this is cruel and a high percentage of these fish won't live very long at all.

Does this mean I support it? No. Nor do I support betta's in a cup. It's just one of those things that will never change unfortunately.

If you're going to pass a law, you really need to look logically at all of the consequences of said law. A law doesn't stop someone from engaging in an activity it punishes them for it.
