Another Failed Stealth Pro Heater

I wouldn't play with heaters!!!
I guess time to figure out what is the best heater out there.

Actually from an electrical hazard point of view a light fixture and submersed pump have much greater potential for electrocution becasue a heater by design is already shorted to ground by its heavy heating element, whereas almost every other type of electric component used on aquariums have very low load or open circuits and as a result have a much greater propensity to use the water, fish or owner to complete the circuit through the hart and to ground. If I were in a bathtub without a GFI and I had to make a choice between a exposed heater element or light fixture a maniac was going to toss in, Id pick the heater every time.

besides a few vocal folks on here, Visi-Therm/Stealth are the most reliable heaters on the market. The basically lower quality Jager/Jebco are often the ones included in kit packages, that most folks talk about not buying and getting better quality stuff.

As for electrocution...I think it best if folks google and get truely acurate information vice total rumor.

excellent point, gunner but i don't even think the lightbulb is a fair comparison...

Jebco-Jebco, I haven't heard of that heater, but if you've tried them and are say Jebco & Jager aren't reliable Ill take it into consideration. :naughty:

How many years did those Visitherm heaters run before they failed? Just asking, because most of my tanks use them.

Hit their website..it is limited to a certain run of models only....

Spoke to the Marineland rep today, he stated to send back the heater for replacement of the same model, and yes they are made in China now.
Nothing is forever, this one lasted 3 years, the class visio, I have for over 5 years, do see burn marks in the middle. I think might be time to replace.

I've had issues with some of the latest runs of stealth..just prior to the pro.. I also have 3 that are 4 years old with no issues...

it was the ones I picked up in the last 2 years.. that said I am running two of the pro's for a year with no issues.

From what I see the quality is not the same as it was in the past, you can actually say that about a lot of products now. I will be shipping the filter back to them for replacement, but I hope they will give me the visi instead of the stealth.
