Any Sci-Fi Fantasy book fans out there?

quick question to you guys, what would you guys like to see in a sci-fi short story? I'm in the mood for writing something, I'm just looking for a little inspiration....

hmmm.... A world where humans created other intelligent life forms and those life forms have kicked our sorry arses and now everyone has to live together. Maybe, Human-Avian(angels), Human-Lupine(werewolves), Human-Crocodilian(dragons), Human-Insectile(sort of like fairies, but more dangerous/bigger), and Human-Machanos(cyborg) combinations, all trying to survive. Oh, and uplift Elephants, Dolphins, Ravens, and Honeybees, with Army Ants and Killer bees having accidentally been uplifted as well and are now at war with the rest of them. Now, how's that for completely random? LMAO

Actually, the latest movies were almost as good as the books, true to the story for the most part. Now they're doing "Hobbit" the same way, looking forward to that one too.

Yes, I heard about that. I wonder if it's going to be one move or a few. Definately looking foward to that.

Maybe your thinking of "The Clan of the Cave Bear" or "Plains of Passage" or maybe "The Mammoth Hunters", they are all about prehistoric humans interacting with each other and Neanderthal.

That's it! Gee I just couldn't remember "Clan of the Cave Bear" all the books were awsome! My girlfriends and I wanted to have a summer meeting and have games, bbq, wrestling a large bear...(large dog dressed up to look like a bear) crafts. Wow, haven't thought of that in many years. We even got in touch with the publishing company to see if there'd be a problem doing something like this and using the name of the book. They were thrilled, lol, however we never got around to it. We all had little kids and no time:)

I'm a little miffed, my books haven't come from Amazon yet. Have to email and check it out:(

Get them yet? "Wise Man's Fear" is pretty good. It's funny, because it pulls you in so well, when I'm working I keep thinking about the book wondering what is going to happen to Kvothe now. lol I read for about 4 hours last night. I'd have it finished by now but I have four young kids who don't like their dad to read while they're awake. :)

No didn't get the books yet. It said by March 28th, I also ordered the 4 book set of Game of Thrones by G.RR.Martin and I don't think that set was out yet. I'm going to read The wise mans fear first. I love when you pick up a book and can't put it down. Haha, I know what you mean, when my kids were little I had to read when they went to sleep, lol, or they'd be pulling the book away! I used to read till 1-2am sometimes. Now they're all grown up and out so I have nooo problems:) But you know, this is the best time so enjoy them!

Hmm, a little late on this thread but I am an avid fantasy reader. I absolutely love Mercedes Lackey - anything set in Valdemar. I just read the first book in her Dragon Jousters series & I'm itching for the next book.

My other favorites... any book by John Marco (he's on his third series), my favorite series being The Eyes of God.

Sara Douglass - The Axis Trilogy/Wayfarer Redemption series. After those books, I read Beyond the Hanging Wall & Threshold, which sort of combined with the Wayfarer characters in the Darkglass Mountain trilogy. The Troy Game tetralogy is a sort of historic based fantasy, beginning in ancient times and resuming in somewhat more recent (not exactly modern) times. I enjoyed it, yet appreciated the other series more.

Kate Elliott - her Crown of Stars series follows a satisfyingly complex storyline, including war, romance, politics, and religion (the usual). I tended to skim past her specific details relating to astronomy (mathematici also play a role in the story), but overall I truly appreciated this series. Oh, and readers will observe an impending apocalypse, obviously whether or or not it occurs, and the aftermath.

Tamora Pierce - another prolific fantasy giant, in my opinion. I have only read the books based in The Circle Universe. The Circle refers to four young mages from disparate backgrounds, who form a unique (never before seen) bond which allows them more powerful magic. Of course, the young mages are each accompanied by an accomplished mage (teachers at a mage school) of similar power, so that they learn control, skill, and may become accredited mages.

That pretty much covers my all time favorites :) I'm still trying to expand my taste, as far as authors go.. I'll probably be using some of the previous suggestions!
