any suggestions for killing rats?

i really need a one bit kill for the poison so they can't travel,..but then if the pets get it I'm done for,.. and they are too,.

not sure which way to go,.. thinking of digging a pit in the basement and loading it with goodies till the get used to it and then loading it with some major poison,.. and eliminating their exit so they can't get out,..
 
There are a thousand reasons to not use poison for every one to use it.
 
Okay look at this point Humane is out of the queston, you can pick up a semi automatic .22 for a little over a hundred dollars, then buy a few cases of rat shot, it is basicly a shotgun, however if you have well made walls it will not penetrate.

another sollution is finding a bobcat.... but that is really complicated.
 
Also when you use poison things get real stinky unless you find them. If they die in the walls :barf:
 
I ran an lived in a pub for a summer that had a massive rat infestation! Thet used to chew through the beer lines and get smashed about once a month. The bottom of town is under the river high tide level but in summer the tide level drops leaving them with the old postage tunnels as a rat freeway. They used the fireplaces and chimneys as routes around the pub, we used some funky poison that was nasty stuff! Most of them died behind sealed fire hearths and stank out the whole place for months, it was totally hanging mann. They used to come up from the celler into our kitchen looking for food, i pulled the kitchen bin into the middle of the kitchen so i could see it from my bed. If i heard them jumping onto the bin edge id try and shoot them, i gotta baby once but it still limped off, we got the grandaddy ''rutherford'' but the pellet bonced off him, crazy strong rodents!!!

They are after yr food and you are what is causing the infestation, all garbage must be kept in sealed metal bins, put child locks on yr cupboards. leave nothing out not even a crumb. Get up the loft and gett them all out, shot gun mask trapps glue boards everthing! Then either dig out yr basement and do the same or put a steal wall around yr house half buried as they can dig. This is war and unless you want to move or catch diseases you have to sort this!!

Then when youve proofed yr house and recovered from yr killling spree maybe go around yr neigbourhood and find were there coming from!
 
I bet some ******* is feeding them!!!!
 
guys i live in the country,..

have a creek on my property that runs and empties into a small stream that emties into the ohio river so i'm about6-7 miles up stream from the river and 80% woods/forests,..

they are natural,.. just snuck in here in the winter and most times leave in the spring but since my dogs don't like to eat when hot they were a feeding frenzy so i figured out how to make the dogs eat before i get back to the house,.. so now they are mad as h*ll and going thru everything,..

i burn my trash every night and put up the cat food at night in a sealed bin,.. and i really cant keep them out of my cupboard, as i found out the darn things dont have a back to them up by the drawers,.. so even if they did they can chew them open in a few hours,.. i lost thousands of dollars of food from their tasting everything and having to burn whats left,..

they even stole my bottle of pepso fish wormer but didn't like it but dumped it out all behind my 10g tank,.. and chewed through my toaster cord and 2 of my filters cords cause they are ticked off,.. this is costing me money,..
all pet foods are sealed and all that is left is the pets and us,.. and a few crumbs perhaps,.. you know kids,..

i really hope they get hungry and leave for the woods like they should,.. they need to be out in the wild eating bugs and things,..

next is to try a ferrit,.. or mink,... perhaps musk to deter them,..
 
Ferret will do the trick. It can get anyplace a rat can, and when it gets there it will kill every rat it can find. Ever seen what's left when a weasel gets into a chicken coop? Every chicken is dead with maybe one or two bites out of it.
 
yes i had an outside hutch of show netherland dwarf rabbits and babies and a mink got in there and killed all 20 does and babies and only one buck was left,.. just cause he was a mean sucker,..

i know it was a mink as the dogs got it the next night it took 3 large dogs to tear it apart ,.. boy the smell was bad,.. worse than any skunk that ever lived or died,..lol
