Any thoughts on the Anthony verdict?

She was up for Charges of Child Abuse.... amongst murder in the 1st, aggravated manslaughter of a child, charges of child abuse, and the 4 counts of supplying false information to a Law enforcement Official in reference to a missing person.
Correct, which is where the murder in commission of a felony in the 3rd degree came into play.

My guess on the neglect is one of those weird legal loops that happens in these types of cases. If the kid was dead already then not reporting it missing is not really neglect. They couldn't prove how or when the child died so they couldn't prove she murdered it. They also couldn't prove she neglected it.

Remember. Legal charges must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Coming to a logical conclusion that "she must have done it" without any evidence doesn't count. There must be evidence saying she definitely did it. Judges usually do a long speech about that before a trial

Like most people, I think she did it. It's such a bleeping shame that the prosecution did such a lousy job, but it is what it is.

The whole trial was a fiasco...much worse than OJ, in my memory.

However, I do wonder...what's life going to be like for Casey Anthony now? It seems like she will need bodyguards in the short term, and in the long term, she will need to move away and start over. I guess the book and movie deal money will pay for that.

I think there should be a law about what the media can say about a court case. Honestly, I'm not sure it should've been on TV at all. Every single thing I heard the media say was about how this woman killed her daughter and covered it up and this, that and the other but they left out the fact that she was "innocent until proven guilty" not the other way around. I would like to see someone brought to justice for this horrible event but without a more convincing argument Ms Anthony is not going to be the one to suffer the consequences.

You know people jump on people for selling the rights to their stories and writing books and basically becoming rich, in the short term, but the truth is what else is she going to do. I mean no company in their right minds would hire her.

I completely agree with this. I am not sure what loophole allows minute by minute coverage of high profile trials, but considering all of the other privacy laws out there, it seems bizarre to me that all of this is out there for public viewing. Parents can't know what their 10 year old has checked out on their library card. Why do millions of strangers get to view each and every detail of this trial from beginning to end?

Completely off topic, but really they can't do that in your area with a library card? My library allows someone to set up an account and through that account you can access information such as what has been checked out.

You can look at your own record. It is available online (for anyone with the card # and pin # to log in and view) but if you call and ask about what anyone else has coming due, for example - whether it is your child or your elderly parent - that information is definitely not available to anyone but the user. Dates perhaps, but not titles. It's rather awkward to work around ;) Especially around summer reading list time for the school aged kids!

Even the abuse was a foolish charge on the part of the DA. Had he charged her with neglect I'm reasonably certain she would have been found guilty on that charge. Abuse is hard to prove without medical evidence, whereas Casey's admitted and independently verified actions would make neglect a lock in my mind. No wonder the DA announced his retirement right afterwards.
