Aquageek's 20G Planted

Thanks, Patty! I actually plan to float the wisteria, so they should get plenty of light :)

I lost one of my Rams today :(

I came home from work and noticed him. The other Ram appears to be doing great, and so are all of my other fish. I will keep an eye on things for a few days and if things look ok, I will get another Ram. He may have just been sick coming from the LFS. I hope the other one stays ok because I really like those fish!

Also did major pruning of my Swords today. They had a lot of leaves that were not doing so good so I removed them. I'm not sure if what they're problem is... they may not be getting enough iron and phosphate as both new and old leaves were showing signs of chlorosis. So I have put together a new dosing regime that I am going to follow for a few weeks and see where that gets me.

Oh okay. It should be fine floating.
Sorry about the Ram:(
They are beautiful fishes. Do you use root tabs near the swords?

You know, I used to use root tabs when I was first starting the swords out a year ago or so (I used to have like 6, but I gave 4 of them away because it was just too much). After a while I stopped using tabs, but that substrate was old, and I am sure it had a nice nutrient build up. In this 30G, I took most of the substrate from the old tank, but there is also new substrate in there because what I had in the old wasn't enough. I ordered a bunch of root tabs with my order from Bob's the other day, so I am going to start using those again for a while.

How are your sword plants doing? Made another plant order! :D Who knew I'll be going crazy over aquatic plants.

That is a great looking tank.

Man I have to upgrade my lighting to a dual T5 fixture or the likes. My stock LED hoods aren't cutting it.

i have 2 dwarf gourami's in my 20 gallon long.. with more fish then you.. they chase the other fish very little.. i have male and female that play with each other.. they must not mind my tank too much as they started a nest.. or what looks to be a nest.. male is bringing pieces of java moss he is ripping out to the surface and wrapping it around some water lettuce i have in there.. i dont think adding those to your tank will be a problem at all.. looks really healthy!

Update time!

Been busy the last couple of weeks. Thanks for the comments everyone! I ended up losing my other Ram as well :( I am not sure what happened - all of my other fish are doing great. Since my last update, I have also removed all of my serpae tetra and donated them to the LFS. They were really giving my angel a hard time. Since their removal, my tank is much more peaceful now. Current fish stock is 5 corys, 10 neons, and 1 angel. I plan on trying Rams again, this time from a different LFS that they get from a local breeder. Also I think it will be less stressful for the Rams since the removal of the serpae tetras as well.

Patty, my swords are making a great come back. I removed most of the dying leaves from both of them and they are showing new bright green growth. The red ludwigia, water wisteria, and micro swords I got from Bob's are doing great as well - the wisteria is shooting a lot of runners down from the top. The red tiger lotus didn't fare to well in shipping, I ended up getting 2 bulbs, the growth that came with the shipment died. However, the bulbs are showing new growth, and looks like they will make a comeback!

If anyone with experience with the red tiger lotus can share some tips that would be great. Currently I have the bulbs just sitting on my gravel, they are not buried at all.

Made a couple of miscelaneous purchases that I should have before the end of the week which is exciting. I am changing my lighting again - going from 1 10k 39W and 1 6.7k 39w to 1 6k 39W, and a Roseate 39W 650nm. I am pretty excited to get the new lights in. Also ordered a new digital thermometer, glass cleaner, and black tubing for my pressurized co2. Nothing too terribly exciting there :)

Will try to get some new pictures up later this evening or tomorrow!

I'm glad your plants are doing good. I don't know if it us the sane way but when I worked at Lowe's I learned that bulbs Ares planted with the pointy end up and that end sticks out of the ground a little.
If I am mistaken, please someone else chime in.
