Are you emotionally attatched to your fish?

You tell me!

In other words, do you love your fish? I haven't really become too attached to them yet, as most of them are so new to me. Also, I have trouble telling the ones I have in groups apart. I like my betta a lot, but I haven't really become emotionally attached to him. I mean I'll be very sad the day he dies, but I don't really rush out of bed to greet him in the morning. To be honest I don't think fish are too much of the kind of "loving pet" compared to a bird or a dog.
I "adopted" four White Cloud Minnows from a friend whose daughter didn't want to bother with the tropical fish hobby anymore. She had everything under the sun in that 15 gallon tank, and nothing seemed to live very long or suit the girl. I suggested White Clouds, and after a year of many community tank deaths they were the only ones to survive. So, to make a very long story short, I was asked if I wanted the only survivors as they were looking at a burial in the toilet bowl while still alive. I took those four White Clouds which are probably worth about $2.00 and have spent around $500 in the last 6 months. I started with a large fish bowl, progressed to a 3 gallon Eclipse system, and now they are in a 20 gallon long. I have four babies in a 1 1/2 gallon bowl who will join them eventually.

In answer to your question . . yes I guess you could say I am emotionally attached! LOL!

Well, I can tell each of my panda cories apart...... My husband calls it obsessive, I call it observant. I'm quite attached to those pandas.
I can distinguish my 4 White Clouds from each other also. They have unique habits and characteristics. The dominant male reminds me of my old Chihuahua! Pushy, small, but oh so cute!

If we didnt have any attachment why would we be keeping fish in the first place?

And of course I do. I still have my first fish. Got him the second day of owning a tank :headshake2: I only had him about 16 months now but that is an acomplishment to me. Hes only 11.5 inches tho in a 75g. But thats ok for me and him. More time in a tank and less in the pond:thumbsup:

Do you feed any live food like daphnia? Worms of any kind? If you do where do you get them? I love feeding my little White Clouds brine shimp, newly hatched - Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I get attached. I'm prob less attached to my neons though because I cant tell them apart. But I still give them the best life I can. I got a few otos this past weekend and they died on me the next day. I was a sad. Theres part of me that feels bad for even buying them. I wasn't in there to get fish and its not the best place to get fish from. They seem to get a lot of shipments in of sick fish. When ever I'm there though I point out if I see that theres a fish thats ill and let them know and they say something like 'ok I will treat them.' But I think if they looked more closely at the tanks when they walk by the fish sold there would be healthier.

I'm very very much attached (ok, well - to most of them. There are a few at neutral).

I just have to be careful not to name them.... because every time I do they seem to die o.0

Yes I'm quite attatched to them. But some more than others. Like Killer, my dwarf puffer and my angelfish Seraphim, they just have wonderful personalities! All my female bettas will let me pet them, so that makes me think they like me too. :)

We are very attached to all of our fish. We or should I say "I" was very attached to my betta (but I killed him, fed him too much bloodworms, and he got bloat). I got teary eyed. But yes, we are attached to them all, and they all even have names. Except for the fry in the 45 (their new home, until they grow), we just call them the little ones.

I am attached to a few of my fish, others are just neat to watch. By far my rope fish and my gar have the most personality. My rope fish greets me everyday.
