Are you emotionally attatched to your fish?

Not nearly as attached as I am to my dog that's for sure =) I am attached to some of my fish. My angelfish is my pride and joy and my whole tank revolves around my lovely Angelica. I also am quite fond of both of my bettas. I love their coloring and the male has a ton of personality and sits on the counter right beside my desk so I see him all the time. My bettas are Gabriel and Gabriella. As far as my platies go, well let's just say I cheer Angelica on whenever I see her gobble up fry and I certainly wouldn't shed a tear if they all went belly up on me and freed up space for something else. If that did happen I'd actually be more worried about Angelica catching whatever killed the indestructible platies. I am not all that cold and heartless, the platies to get well taken care of and I even purchased a secondary tank to help house them. There's just so many of them, and they all look the same, that I can't really get attached or excited about them =/

Oh Yeah...big time.

I've had my Spotted Raphael for about 13 years...and when he dies it's not going to be easy.

I'm very attached to my 3 hoplo catfish (Megalechis picta), which feed from my hands whether I want them to or not!, and my featherfin Synodontis.
I'm also fond of the Brochis as they spawned in my quarantine tank (plus the babies), the 3 baby Ancistrus, and the sailfin plec.

In fact I'm fond of all my fish, and do a head count several times a day... the cichlids show the greatest interaction with me- it's impossible to watch them do anything other than beg for food or eat food, or squabble to get in the best position for when I feed them, because as soon as they see me they come to the corner of the tank and they don't ever seem to give up being hungry.

Our fish are apart of the family. Even the few we can't distinguish by name are still important to us.
Now, how many of you talk to your fish?
We may be known to do that from time to time. :D

I think were more attached to the fish we've raised from fry, but would feel bad looseing any of them............:)

Yes, I have had my fish for the past 5 years and they even rub against me when I do water changes. I have even brought a new tank so that I could keep them all when my gibbiceps pleco out grew my community tank. And all can be hand fed.

I am attached to my Ram because I have pretty much bent over backwards to see it thrive in my tank. When I first got her, she looked bad. Sank to the bottom like a rock after a two-hour acclimation period. Stayed like that for three days but miraculously didn't die. Now, after having her for 8 months she is JUST starting to color up. It seems like she likes her tank just fine, and I've been working my butt off to keep the tank clean and the water quality toip-notch for her.

And I am sure you aren't the only one who talks to your fish. We sure do. One of our BN's will be on the glass, and my hubby will be in the kitchen, and I will say Beany is on the glass, like a tattletale voice or he will do the same. It is funny how we even scratch at the glass, like we are petting them or what. And sometimes I will be in the bedroom and I will hear hubby talking to the fish. Nothing to worry about, I do the same thing. And we always laugh, not like we can take them out for walks (unless they are in a water jar)...

my kids sure get attached

My hubby and i keep track of the fish daily. But our kids name them and get upset if they get sick or die. Our bubble eye gf, Bubbles, was our youngest's fish, and man, was he upset when Bubbles developed an ulcer he never recovered from. We had him pick out a plant and marked Bubbles' burial spot with it. Then, when son was ready, got him a new fish - named Speedy Gonzales (comet type this time). Took him a while, though. Only one i think hubby and i named was our pleco, Speckles. Rest were named by kids.

YES!
I almost died when my fav. fish, my first fish, passed under the Rainbow Bridge.
