I definitely have gotten attached to my fish and my fiancee gets even more attached to them. We had a betta that we were pretty certain would die and we sat in the room with the tank reading books so we could keep an eye on him. We also ran out and spent $60 on a little Eclipse system after putting an adult swordtail in with an endlers; it felt pretty silly to spend $60 to save a $4 fish, but we didn't want the little guy to become food.
I'm attached and have named each of my fish in both of my tanks. If any of you saw my last thread re; my lost Congo-Tetra you'll understand..when I came home it took me all of a few seconds to realize she was missing. I think because we don't touch our fish we don't bond in the same way as say a dog. But I do think there is a type of communication w/them. They each greet me in different ways and they certainly have individual personalities that can be observed. But then again my Husband thinks I'm obsessive too!
HA HA
It depends how long I've had them. If they die shortly after I buy them, no. But most of the one in there now have been there for more than a year, and yes, I'm attached to them.
